Overview: <p>The Project and Portfolio Management group is responsible for managing new product development and special initiatives to support corporate objectives.&nbsp; The Principal R&amp;D Project Manager is responsible for managing projects from initiation through regulatory submission.&nbsp; Projects could include pharmaceutical, device and combination products across the retinal, corneal and glaucoma franchises.&nbsp;&nbsp;The individual will work closely with project leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to facilitate the development of project strategy, integrated project plans and implementation of those project plans to meet defined objectives.&nbsp;Key accountabilities include creation and maintenance of timelines, oversight and maintenance of budgets, and oversight of timely execution of activities.&nbsp;The individual will establish and maintain functionally integrated project timelines and will prepare and manage project team budgets in collaboration with Finance and the cross functional team leads.</p> <p>The Principal R&amp;D Project Manager will own the development and adoption of best practices and tools within the project management group.</p>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Indirectly lead cross-functional project teams, driving timeline adherence and unwavering focus on project strategy</li> <li>Develop and deliver best practices including tools and resources in the areas of: <ul> <li>Project budget</li> <li>Project milestones</li> <li>Project Management community of practice leader &ndash; communication and maintenance of common tools, best practices and collaboration across the project management function within Glaukos</li> </ul> </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Introduce and support Project Management best practices and tools <ul> <li>Take a leading role in the development organization&rsquo;s annual budgeting and quarterly project accruals</li> <li>Act as a strong liaison between finance and R&amp;D functional leaders</li> <li>Develop, implement and drive adoption of &ldquo;fit for purpose&rdquo; tools for augmenting processes across the development organization</li> <li>Direct responsibility for implementation of project management practices and training and development of project manager team</li> <li>Perform quarterly assessments to evaluate project performance versus plan through submission and synthesizes results to appropriate level for R&amp;D management</li> </ul> </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Support project leads to manage development projects from initiation to regulatory submission. <ul> <li>Drive project meetings and ensure projects advance according to plan, ensuring accountability of all team members, activities and deliverables</li> <li>Facilitate cross functional strategic discussions to ensure all elements of development are planned</li> <li>Create and maintain project management deliverables including gantt charts, agendas, minutes, action item logs, decision logs, and risk registers</li> <li>Proactively manage risks and develop proactive mitigation strategies</li> <li>Manages sub-team meetings as appropriate and accurately incorporates functional area objectives into overall development plan</li> <li>Communicate transparently and in a concise fashion to relevant stakeholders regarding project status, plans, risks and strategy</li> <li>Exercise excellent judgment in determining appropriate project communications to internal and external stakeholders</li> <li>Proactively identifies critical path constraints and elevates solutions to R&amp;D management</li> </ul> </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Lead special initiatives to support organizational growth</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree required</li> <li>PMP certification preferred</li> </ul> <p><strong>Experience:&nbsp;</strong>9+ years of experience in finance, project management, or pharmaceutical product development.</p> <ul> <li>Experience with developing, implementing, and driving adoption of &ldquo;fit for purpose&rdquo; tools for augmenting processes across the development organization.</li> <li>Strong operating knowledge of R&amp;D finance, including budgeting in MS project, project invoicing and accruals.</li> <li>Experience in successfully working on and completing multiple projects that require strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills</li> <li>Extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical product development processes and deliverables at each stage of the pipeline, with a focus on IND enabling studies through clinical proof-of-concept, pivotal clinical and regulatory submission</li> <li>Experience facilitating and documenting team meetings to enable cross-functional communication, decision-making, and alignment with internal and external stakeholders while managing project scope, deliverables, risks, and resources</li> </ul> <p><strong>Skills and Abilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Comfort working in an innovative and entrepreneurial environment; operates well with ambiguity and proactively identifies and actions solutions.</li> <li>Strong project management skills required, including attention to detail and organization skills; project management certificate preferred</li> <li>Proven expertise in effectively applying and/or developing advanced project management tools and methodologies</li> <li>Ability to work cross functionally and collaboratively to develop and execute development plans</li> <li>High level of communication skills including written and verbal platforms</li> <li>Expertise in project management tools including Microsoft Project, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint; Tableau or other BI tool experience preferred</li> </ul>
