Overview: <p>Fleet Technician is a Three-Tiered job. Incumbents perform repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles and related equipment and provides customer service for small to medium units or functions supporting Hillsborough County Fleet Management Department.</p> <p><u><strong>Ideal Candidate</strong></u></p> <p>The ideal candidate will possess entry level knowledge of vehicle and equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, testing, and diagnostics.&nbsp; The candidate performs entry level repair, maintenance, and customer service for a large repair and maintenance operation supporting Hillsborough County Fleet Management Department.&nbsp; Incumbents in this classification perform the duties of the operation.&nbsp; The candidate will possess as a minimum graduation from High School or possession of a GED certificate and successful completion of an accredited vocational school or technical training program.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Tier 1 -</strong>&nbsp;The candidate will possess as a minimum &ldquo;two years&rdquo; of full time documented professional experience in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, or equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Tier 2 &ndash;</strong>&nbsp;The candidate will possess as a minimum &ldquo;four years&rdquo; of full time documented professional experience in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, or equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Tier 3</strong>&nbsp;- The candidate will possess as a minimum &ldquo;six years&rdquo; of full time documented professional experience in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, or equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted.&nbsp;</p> <p>The candidate will possess an EPA approved Section 609 Certification. This position is designated as Mission Essential Group B by the Department Director meaning that the candidate must be able to report to work in support of continuity of operations and/or emergency support functions.&nbsp; The candidate will possess a valid Florida Driver's License, with no more than seven points within the past 24 months or a commercial driver&rsquo;s license.&nbsp; The candidate must possess a Class &ldquo;B&rdquo; Commercial Driver&rsquo;s License within the probationary period.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Performs minor and major repairs, preventative maintenance and repair diagnostics to county vehicles and equipment to ensure they function properly and safely.</li> <li>Diagnoses and performs minor repairs to vehicle and equipment systems, such as braking, climate control, electrical, electronic, steering and driveline to determine repair requirements.</li> <li>Troubleshoots vehicle systems using computer interfaces and generic code scanners to obtain trouble codes from vehicle Engine Control Module (ECM).</li> <li>Services engines, transmissions, differentials, fuel systems, braking systems, climate control systems, and hydraulic systems by changing fluids and filters, and flushing systems in accordance with manufacturers specifications.</li> <li>Uses micrometers, calipers, pressure gauges, dial indicators and other precision instruments to determine working clearances on mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.</li> <li>Places orders for required parts, materials and supplies, as required.</li> <li>Inputs information into computer, database or related software to maintain records such as repair, maintenance, equipment, and customer service history.</li> <li>Inputs information into a computer, database or related software to maintain records such as repair, maintenance, equipment, and customer service history.</li> <li>Maintains tools, supplies, and workstations in a clean, safe and presentable manner.</li> <li>Assists staff with physical inventory of equipment, parts, supplies and tools, as required.</li> <li>Assists staff in major repairs of vehicles and equipment.</li> <li>Assists staff in complex and non-standard retrofitting of additional accessories or equipment, in accordance with customer specifications.</li> <li>Assists staff with physical inventory of equipment, parts, supplies and tools, as required (Tier 2 and Tier 3).</li> <li>Performs road tests and operational checks of vehicles and equipment to insure quality of repairs and service.</li> <li>Attends meetings, training sessions, educational courses; reviews videos, online resources and paper manuals and materials to maintain current repair and maintenance methods and practices.</li> <li>Performs other related duties as required.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate.</li> <li>Successful completion of an approved vocational school or technical training program.</li> <li>Must possess EPA-approved Section 609 Certification.</li> <li>Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.</li> <li>Possession of a valid Class &ldquo;B&rdquo; Commercial Driver's License with endorsement(s) may be required within the probationary period.</li> <li>Certification in Welding Fabrication may be required.</li> </ul> <h3><strong><u>Job Specifications</u></strong></h3> <ul> <li>Knowledge of vehicle and equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and diagnostics.</li> <li>Knowledge of safety guidelines and procedures.</li> <li>Knowledge of proper testing procedures and methods to determine accuracy of repairs.</li> <li>Skill in retrofitting accessories and equipment to vehicles and equipment.</li> <li>Ability to perform duties in a collaborative team environment.</li> <li>Ability to prioritize assignments, as it relates to customer needs and deadlines.</li> <li>Ability to utilize computers, databases and related software.</li> <li>Ability to provide guidance, training, and direction to lower-level staff.</li> <li>Ability to represent the county with professionalism, tact, and courtesy.</li> <li>Ability to resolve or elevate requests for assistance.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;<strong><u>Physical Requirements</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Will be required to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch for frequent and extended periods of times.</li> <li>Ability to lift and carry 75-lbs.</li> <li>Ability to work in adverse or extreme weather conditions.</li> </ul> <h3><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;<strong><u>Work Category</u></strong></h3> <ul> <li><strong>Heavy Work</strong>&nbsp;- Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.</li> </ul> <h3>&nbsp;<strong><u>Emergency Management Responsibilities</u></strong></h3> &nbsp;In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee&rsquo;s department, the County&rsquo;s Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
