Overview: <strong>The Ideal Candidate</strong><br /><br />The Hillsborough County Public Works Department is seeking a Solid Waste Transfer Equipment Operator to operate semi-tractor trailers, roll-off trucks and other motorized equipment and vehicles.&nbsp; The ideal candidate will have advanced experience in semi-tractor trailer operation.&nbsp; Preferably, candidate will possess knowledge of solid waste operations.&nbsp; Candidate must have the ability to be exposed to loud sounds in a waste transfer station, handle inordinate smells from trash and exposure to dirt-filled grounds.&nbsp; Candidate will also perform manual labor in outside environment, exposed to heat, sun, high humidity, rain and other adverse weather conditions.&nbsp; Candidate will walk/stand for prolonged periods of time (approximately six (6) hours) per day. The job also requires frequent fine manipulations, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds, and occasional bending, crawling, climbing and stooping.&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Candidate must possess a Class A Commercial driver&rsquo;s license with a tanker&rsquo;s endorsement and have the ability to pass a DOT/CDL physical examination annually.<br /><br /></strong><strong>Job Overview<br /><br /></strong>Performs duties operating a large semi-tractor trailer or roll-off truck and other motorized equipment and vehicles used in the transport of bulk solid waste material.
Responsibilities: <p>Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below:</p> <ul> <li>Operates large semi-tractor trailer or roll-off motorized vehicles for the transportation of bulk solid waste material in constricted loading/unloading locations, on unimproved roads, and on heavily traveled roads and highways in compliance with all DOT and County safety rules and regulations. Operation of large semi-tractor trailer or roll-off motorized vehicles constitutes at least 75% of daily job duties.&nbsp;</li> <li>Operates hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical auxiliary equipment related to assigned tractors and trailers.&nbsp;</li> <li>Checks and ensures that equipment is serviced and in good working condition; makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, and ensures that periodic maintenance and major repairs are performed.&nbsp;</li> <li>Performs daily safety inspections and observes proper safety practices and regulations when operating or working around equipment.&nbsp;</li> <li>Operates other heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, excavators, and skid steers to perform a variety of solid waste operational functions, as needed.&nbsp;</li> <li>May supervise subordinate operators, trades helpers, or laborers or act as a lead driver.&nbsp;</li> <li>Uses manual tools to pick up litter at the facility and ensure proper disposal.&nbsp;</li> <li>Performs other related duties as required.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <strong>Work Category</strong><br /> <ul> <li><strong>Heavy work&nbsp;</strong>- Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.</li> </ul>
