Overview: Industrial Mechanic is a Two-Tiered job, and an incumbent in the job performs entry maintenance, fabrication, overhaul, and repair of mechanical equipment located within a water, wastewater, or reclaimed treatment sewer pump station or LPSS facilities. Assists and/or leads crews in a broad range of preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and new equipment installations, and assists with planning and estimating costs of maintenance work.<br /><br /><strong>Tier Distinctions</strong><br />Tier-1: Intermediate level technician. Four years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair/replacement of water and waste water-related equipment. May direct and/or oversee the work of other employees, provide instruction, guidance, and training as required.<br /><br />Tier-2: Journeyman/Lead worker. Six years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair/replacement of water and waste water-related equipment; and possession of a valid Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT). Direct and/or oversee the work of other subordinate employees, provide instruction, guidance, and training as required
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Reviews system designs, specifications, and products, attends pre-construction meetings, and recommends changes in water/wastewater/reclaim facilities mechanical systems.</li> <li>Monitors, reviews and validates work practices for quality control assurance of wastewater processes and to ensure adherence to safety standards in the operation of water/wastewater/reclaim water facilities.</li> <li>Trouble-shoots problems and recommends corrective actions based on skilled knowledge of mechanical repair practices.</li> <li>Inputs and gathers data from Supervisory Control Data Acquisition system (SCADA), and Comprehensive Asset Management System (CAMS).</li> <li>Runs reports as necessary.</li> <li>Performs preventative maintenance and corrective repair work on water/wastewater/reclaim facilities and equipment.</li> <li>Fabricates and machines repair parts for equipment, with the ability to weld steel, brass, and aluminum.</li> <li>Operates lathes, mill/drill presses, welder and various other metal working power tools as needed.</li> <li>Locates leaks, and detects defects in water/wastewater/reclaim equipment in conformance to established plans and standards.</li> <li>Expected to temporarily perform duties outside normal classification in the event of a declared emergency.</li> <li>Operates a personal computer and work in software programs associated with job.</li> <li>Completes various maintenance jobs on buildings and grounds.</li> <li>Performs other related duties as required.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong><br /> <br /><strong>All Tiers</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate.</li> <li>Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.</li> </ul> <br /><strong>Tier-1:</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Four (4) years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair/replacement of water and waste water related equipment OR</li> <li>An equivalent combination of education, training and experience would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below</li> </ul> <br /><strong>Tier-2:</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Six (6) years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair/replacement of water and waste water-related equipment.</li> <li>Possession of a valid Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT); OR</li> <li>An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted above.</li> </ul> <br /><strong>Job Specifications</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of machinery and related mechanical equipment.</li> <li>Knowledge of the water, reclaim, wastewater treatment systems and sewer pump/lift stations and low pressure sewer systems.</li> <li>Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of the water/wastewater/reclaim facilities operating equipment.</li> <li>Knowledge of the principals of hydraulics, electricity, combustion, and standard safety practices.</li> <li>Knowledge on the principles and practices of odor control and/or disinfection processes.</li> <li>Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems to determine the proper remedial action to be taken, and to make the necessary repairs to equipment.</li> <li>Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.</li> <li>Ability to read piping and electrical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.</li> <li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.</li> <li>Ability to enter confined space areas such as wet wells, tanks, manholes, vaults, pits etc.</li> <li>Ability to perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on assigned equipment and machinery.</li> <li>Ability to estimate time, materials, and equipment required for assigned jobs; may requisition materials as required and/or instructed.</li> <li>Ability and willingness to respond to emergency situations such as floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and other natural and/or unnatural crises to provide for public health and safety.</li> <li>Ability and willingness to work overtime, rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.</li> <li>Ability to use a computer and related software.</li> <li>Ability to operate a fork lift, backhoe, boom/bucket truck or other heavy equipment.</li> <li>Ability to work effectively with others.</li> <li>Employees/Candidates in Tier-2 must have proven ability to serve as lead employees as directed on project teams assigned to their given assignments.</li> </ul>
