Employees can select from three health care plan options. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 60 days of employment.</li> <li><strong>Dental Insurance:&nbsp;</strong>Employees are eligible to enroll in the dental coverage and choose from four options: High DMO, Low DMO, a network Open Access Plan, and a PPO. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.</li> <li><strong>Vision Care:&nbsp;</strong>Employees and their dependents are eligible to enroll in the vision coverage. Co-payment coverage includes exams, lens and frame, as well as an allowable contact lens expense. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.</li> <li><strong>Employee Assistance Program:&nbsp;</strong>This program provides all employees and family members with professional, confidential counseling sessions. All employees and dependents are afforded up to six (6) free visits per Plan year. Responsibilities: <p><strong>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</strong></p> <p>Frequently standing and/or walking; frequently required to stand for long periods and walk long distances; frequently requires repeated reaching by extending hand(s) and/or arm(s) in any direction; frequently requires moderate lifting or carrying 26-50 pounds; frequently requires heavy lifting or carrying up to 51 pounds or greater; frequently requires pushing and/or pulling.<br /><br /></p> <p><strong>REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES<br />Note</strong>: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described<br />below.<br /><br />&bull; Provide maintenance of existing and future access points, trails, and park sites.<br />&bull; Performs various field environmental sampling and collection duties.<br />&bull; On-going hiking/equestrian/mountain bike/canoe trail maintenance.<br />&bull; Conduct exotic plant control using herbicide and other methods.<br />&bull; Assist with exotic/ invasive/ nuisance animal removal.<br />&bull; Assist with or give guided field trips on various nature preserves.<br />&bull; Assist with prescribed burns by preparing fire lanes &amp; participating on fires.<br />&bull; Assist with water quality monitoring.<br />&bull; Assist with restoration activities, particularly planting of native species.<br />&bull; Assist with the removal of trash from preserves.<br />&bull; Post site boundaries and/or entrances with appropriate signage.<br />&bull; Post kiosks of current preserve rules/regulations and upcoming events.<br />&bull; Open and close gates at various nature preserves for public access.<br />&bull; Fence, gate, lock, etc. installation/removal/maintenance.<br />&bull; Coordinate Boy Scout/Eagle Scout projects.<br />&bull; Documentation of daily activities in preserves, including plant &amp; animal sightings.<br />&bull; Performs other related duties as required.</p> <p><em><strong>This classification description is not intended to be, nor should it be construed as an all inclusive list of the duties associated with a particular position. Requirements: <p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</strong><br />An Associate's degree in a Natural Science;&nbsp;<strong>and<br /></strong>Possession of a valid Driver's License.<br /><strong>Or<br /></strong>An equivalent of 2 years field experience in Land Management.</p> <strong>The ideal candidate will have the following:</strong><br />&bull; Basic Wildland Fire training (S-130, S-190, L-180, and I-100)<br />&bull; Possesses Florida pesticide license applicator license (CORE, natural areas, aquatics)<br />&bull; Considerable experience working with wildland fire<br />&bull; Considerable experience handling, mixing and applying herbicide in a land management context<br />&bull; Experience assisting with restoration activities, particularly establishment of native species<br />&bull; Experience maintaining trails and recreational improvements<br />&bull; Experience using GPS units for mapping<br />&bull; Skill operating heavy equipment (tractors, backhoe, etc.)<br />&bull; Skill operating off-road vehicles<br />&bull; Skill using hand and power tools (basic carpentry tools, chainsaw, etc.)<br />&bull; Skill identifying native and invasive/exotic species in Florida<br />&bull; Ability to work outdoors in all Florida seasons<br />&bull; Good communication skills, decision making, and ability to follow directions<br /><br /><strong>JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES</strong><br />&bull; Working knowledge of environmental sampling and collection methods.<br />&bull; Ability to follow technical directions.<br />&bull; Ability to walk, climb, run, stoop, bend, stand, push, pull, lift 40 lbs. and carry heavy items.<br />&bull; Ability to work outdoors year round in typical Florida conditions.<br />&bull; High degree of adaptability and problem solving ability.<br />&bull; Ability to operate power tools such as chain saws, trimmers, mowers, etc.<br />&bull; Ability to learn the operation of tractors and similar heavy equipment.<br />&bull; Ability to obtain and maintain Restricted Use Pesticide License/Natural Areas category.<br />&bull; Ability to attend prescribed fire-related training, and participate on prescribed burns.<br />&bull; Ability to retain knowledge of preserve locations and access points.<br />&bull; Ability to identify and differentiate hazardous, non-hazardous, and recyclable solid waste material.<br />&bull; Good interpersonal relations skills with public and co-workers.<br />&bull; Good communication skills.<br /><strong><br />SPECIAL PROBATIONARY NOTE</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Obtain, within six months of hiring, and maintain Restricted Use Pesticide License/Natural Areas Category</li> </ul> <p><strong>Equal Opportunity Employer:</strong></p> <p>Hillsborough County Government provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
