Overview: <p><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;">The Head Start/Early Head Start Accounting Clerk performs a variety of general accounting support tasks including: Verifying the accuracy of invoices and other accounting documents or records; updating and maintaining accounting journals, ledgers, and other records detailing financial business transactions; compiling data and preparing a variety of reports; reconciling records with internal company employees and management, or external vendors or customers recommends actions to resolve discrepancies; investigates questionable data. Assigments are varied and may be subject to instruction.&nbsp;</span></p> <div>&nbsp;</div>
Responsibilities: <div>Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.</div> <div>&bull; Reconciles expense and revenue accounts, sub ledgers to general ledger; and identifies and initiates corrective actions.</div> <div>&bull; Acts as the fiscal liaison for departmental staff; researches funding restrictions, searches and analyzes expenditures.</div> <div>&bull; Reconciles Purchase Orders to invoices and receipts.</div> <div>&bull; Prepares Standard Miscellaneous Batches, Journal Entries, Event Billings, and Deposit Journals.</div> <div>&bull; Receives funds, prepares deposits, and reconciles bank statements.</div> <div>&bull; Provides local, state, federal, and annual financial audit assistance.</div> <div>&bull; Assists with the preparation of the department's operating and capital budgets.</div> <div>&bull; Initiates and/or approves fiscal transactions in the automated accounting system.</div> <div>&bull; Manages departmental invoice payments which includes monitoring and taking corrective action for financial transactions to include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Customer Accounts, Projects/Grants, etc.</div> <div>&bull; Validates labor allocations and prepares/updates forms.</div> <div>&bull; Reconciles customer accounts and submits billing information and processes customer refunds; prepares aged receivables schedules.</div> <div>&bull; Reviews and analyzes monthly fiscal transactions; identifies issues; and recommends and prepares corrective action.</div> <div>&bull; Prepares various fiscal reports i.e. payroll, expenditure detail, customer account analysis, aging reports</div> <div>&bull; Performs other duties as needed, including those performed by subordinate fiscal, financial, and clerical staff.</div>
Requirements: <div><strong>Minimum Qualifications Required</strong></div> <div>&bull; Associate&rsquo;s degree with a major in Accounting or Finance; AND</div> <div>&bull; Two years of experience in bookkeeping or financial record keeping;</div> <div>OR</div> <div>&bull; An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.<br /><br /> <div><strong>Additional Job Requirements</strong></div> <div>A department, depending on the nature of its mission and operations, may require that employees in all or certain positions in this job classification:</div> <div>1. Maintain the ability to pass the background checks required for the position. These background checks may include but are not limited to:</div> <div>&bull; Criminal History Background Check using Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS)</div> <div>&bull; Level 1 and Level 2 Background screening (Ch. 435 Florida Statutes)</div> <div>&bull; Child Abuse, Abandonment and Neglect Record Check using the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS)</div> <div>&bull; Sex Offender and Sexual Predator record check using the list maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)</div> <div>2.
