Responsibilities: <ul><li>Examines vehicle and discusses with Lead Motor Pool Mechanic the extent of damage or malfunction.</li><li>Plans work procedure.</li><li>Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle.</li><li>Removes unit such as engine, transmission, or differential.</li><li>Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear.</li><li>Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings.</li><li>Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.</li><li>Rebuilds parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks.</li><li>Rewires ignition system, lights, and instrument panel.</li><li>Relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiator.</li><li>Mends damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts.</li><li>Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.</li><li>Makes necessary repairs to tires of all sizes, balancing and patching required.</li><li>Operates company vehicle(s) transporting to servicing or to retrieve parts at local dealershipe/parts stores. (Valid drivers license required.)</li></ul>
Requirements: <ul><li>Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. -</li><li>Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. </li><li>Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.</li><li>Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.</li><li>Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.</li><li>Must qualify for licensing with the West Virginia Racing Commission. </li><li>Must possess a valid driver’s license for the state in which you reside. </li><li>In addition to the pre-employment background check, this position will be subject to periodic checks of your driving record in order to determine your continued suitability to drive company and/or patron vehicles.</li><li>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
