Responsibilities: <li>Maintains racing surface and surrounding areas by operating gasoline or deisel-powered tractors and equipment to move material and draw farm implements in designed methods to include the following:</li><li>Ability to operate all equipment and accessories within track maintenance department. This includes large tractors, skid loaders, large front-end loaders, loaders, large trucks, zero-turn mowers, trimmers, saws, etc. </li><li>Releases brakes, shifts gears, and depresses accelerator or move throttle to control forward and backward movement of tractor.</li><li>Steers tractor by turning steering wheel and depressing brake pedals.</li><li>Assists in maintaining the integrity of the race surface during training and racing.</li><li>Load and deliver clay and sand materials to racetrack and barn areas. </li><li>Assists in overall maintenance of grounds.</li><li>Responsible for maintenance of lawn and/or grass using zero-turn mowers, edgers, and trimmers.</li><li>Drives water truck, to moisten the race surface.</li><li>Must clean all equipment being used.</li><li>Must report problems with machine to the motor pool.</li><li>Must be able to set the starting gate during live racing.</li><li>Assists laborers when needed.</li><li>Assists with transportation of disabled horses.</li><li>Manually moving/raking material around the race surface.</li><li>Assist in all snow removal over entire property includes snow plowing, snow shoveling, sidewalk maintenance, race track clean up, etc.</li></ul>
Requirements: <ul><li>Must possess a valid drivers’ license which will be subject to annual DMV background checks.</li><li>Must have 1 year maintenance experience in racing surfaces or equivalent experience.</li><li>Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of organization.</li><li>Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.</li><li>Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.</li><li>Must qualify for licensing by the West Virginia Racing Commission. Must possess a valid driver’s license for the state in which you reside. In addition to the pre-employment background check, this position will be subject to periodic checks of your driving record in order to determine your continued suitability to drive company and/or patron vehicles. Must have OSHA certification on machinery used by Track Maintenance.</li><li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.</li><li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.</li></ul>
