Overview: <p>The Tax and Compliance Manager&nbsp;provides support to the federal, state, local and international tax reporting functions as well as government and internal control compliance.</p> <p>This individual can work remotely, with quarterly trips to Coeur d'Alene, ID.&nbsp;</p>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Leading the internal compliance process and reporting for income tax, sales tax, use tax, property tax, estate/gift tax, harvest/severance tax, unclaimed property and other governmental tax reporting. Also includes Canadian reporting for Trucking Operations.</li> <li>Develop the organization&rsquo;s tax compliance program to ensure all internal practices adhere to applicable Canadian, US federal, state, and local laws.</li> <li>Quarterly and annual income tax projections, accruals and analysis; work with businesses/owners, applicable stakeholders and outside tax advisors for estimated payments.</li> <li>Maintain and reconcile all tax related general ledger accounts and oversee the preparation and recording of all required tax related journal entries and reconciliations.</li> <li>Facilitate and coordinate with outside tax advisors the preparation, review and timely submission of all required company, trust and other income tax filings.</li> <li>Plan for and develop an overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with the businesses/owners and applicable stakeholders and outside tax advisors.</li> <li>Proactive coordination with key stakeholders and thought partners around regular tax planning discussions.</li> <li>In coordination with outside tax advisors, monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.</li> <li>Ownership of accounting and calculations that are key taxable income drivers including but not limited to: <ul> <li>Fixed assets/depreciation</li> <li>Inventory costing including LIFO</li> <li>Transfer pricing</li> <li>631(a) &amp; (b) valuation</li> <li>Timber depletion</li> <li>Section 1031 exchange planning</li> </ul> </li> <li>In coordination with outside tax advisors, manage and facilitate IRS or other tax audits; preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.</li> <li>Calculation of the income tax provision for the company.</li> <li>Periodic testing of company&rsquo;s internal controls (expense reports, invoice approval, compliance with internal policies, etc.).</li> <li>Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.</li> <li>Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.</li> <li>Team member of ad hoc projects that could include conservation easement analysis, strategic acquisitions, entity structure planning, etc.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>7+ years of experience in Tax Compliance with relevant experience in a manufacturing environment. Forest Products experience a plus.</li> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Law, Taxation, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.</li> <li>CPA license required with desire to continue education process focused on continued growth and development of skills.</li> <li>Public accounting experience within the tax service line.</li> <li>Strong foundation with U.S. federal, state and local reporting requirements and awareness of Canadian and cross border tax reporting requirements.</li> <li>Strong knowledge of tax code and regulations, compliance and procedures; takes a code-based path in finding solutions.</li> <li>Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.</li> <li>Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and fixed asset accounting systems.</li> <li>Possess analytical skills, decision-making skills, strong interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, intellectually curious.</li> </ul> <br /> <p>As a condition of employment, Idaho Forest Group requires employees to complete a variety of pre-employment screening processes which may include, but are not limited to: criminal background check, drug and substance test, reference check, prior work verification, driving history (MVR), education verification, aptitude/skills testing, and credit checks.
