Overview: <br /> <p>The Pool Technician is responsible for performing various general labor activities such as variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and routine work in pool maintenance requiring specialized knowledge and skills, including: installation, maintenance, modification, and repair work in assigned area of pool/splash pad equipment, building repair, minor plumbing, and electrical repair.</p> <p>Pool Technician is responsible for performing a range of aquatic maintenance and operational duties. Responsibilities require knowledge of the plumbing field and knowledge of swimming pool chemical treatment and testing. It is distinguished from other maintenance and repair classes by the specific knowledge of swimming pool chemistry, pool equipment installation, maintenance, and repair. Candidate must work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. The incumbent shall at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.</p>
Responsibilities: <br /> <ul> <li>Maintains community&rsquo;s aquatic facilities to include pools, fountains, and splash pads.</li> <li>Skim water surface to remove floating debris and clean skimmer baskets as necessary throughout the day</li> <li>Inspect underwater lighting and deck lighting</li> <li>Vacuum pool or fountain as necessary</li> <li>Brush walls of the swimming pools and fountains daily and backwash as necessary</li> <li>Clean tiles around pool and fountain edge where needed</li> <li>Inspect flow meters, pressure gauges, and valves. Record all readings daily</li> <li>Responsible for pool heater maintenance and operation.</li> <li>Performs water tests, temperature readings, calibrates automation.</li> <li>Checks pumps and motors for proper operation.</li> <li>Inspects and maintains chemical feed system, pool fittings, hardware; pool covers; waterslide.</li> <li>Performs monthly facility safety inspections.</li> <li>Handles all pool chemicals safely.</li> <li>Coordinates the maintenance, renovation, construction, and inspection of community&rsquo;s swimming pools, splash pads, and fountains.</li> <li>Establish and perform an annual preventative maintenance program for community&rsquo;s pool facilities, splash pad, and fountain.</li> <li>Provides initial response to calls for service from Maintenance Manager, assesses maintenance needs, and takes corrective action or routes a work order to appropriate maintenance team.</li> <li>Maintains pool plans, technical specifications, and other maintenance or construction history on all pools, facilities, and splash pads.</li> <li>Serves as liaison between maintenance staff and contracted lifeguards. Works closely with office staff, community, and contracted lifeguards.</li> <li>Conducts inventories, and effectively communicates with Maintenance Manager for timely ordering of chemicals and supplies.</li> <li>Maintains aquatic buildings to include general janitorial responsibilities for restrooms, pump rooms, and splash pad/fountain areas</li> <li>Maintains aquatic grounds to include general maintenance, trash pickup, deck maintenance, and power washing of buildings as necessary.</li> <li>Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.</li> <li>Maintain splash pads: <ul> <li>Clean nozzles</li> <li>Check chemicals</li> <li>Inspect feed hoses</li> <li>Check diaphragms</li> <li>Backwash as needed</li> <li>Clean water features</li> <li>Clean/blow off pad surfaces</li> <li>Maintain equipment logs</li> <li>Inspect all equipment</li> <li>Inspect features</li> <li>Verify run times and&nbsp;programming</li> <li>Remove debris from reservoir tank</li> <li>Inspect lights</li> </ul> </li> <li>Keeping the pool/splash pads clean and up to safety standards is the main job of a pool maintenance technician.</li> <li>Pool Technician is required to inspect the pool/splash pad on a daily basis and follow the proper procedures for cleaning and sanitizing.</li> <li>Maintain appropriate supply levels of chemicals and cleaning agents. If persistent or unusual adverse conditions are noted, he/she is expected to report them to his/her superior and follow directions to correct them.</li> <li>Part of this job requires physically inspecting the interior of the pool along with valves and drains to ensure they are free of debris and properly functioning.</li> <li>Keeping safety equipment inspections up to date and inspecting decks and diving boards for defects are also regularly required for this job.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <br /> <p><strong><em>Education:&nbsp;</em></strong>High School graduate or equivalent.</p> <p><strong><em>Experience:&nbsp;</em></strong>Five (5) years of recent experience in Pool Maintenance; or an acceptable combination of education, experience, or training.<br /><br /></p> <p><strong>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:</strong></p> <p><strong><em>Knowledge of:</em></strong></p> <ul> <li>Operation, repair, and maintenance of swimming pools, equipment, and facilities</li> <li>Hazards and safety precautions applicable to pool maintenance</li> <li>Chemical water treatment systems and pool water testing</li> <li>Current pool maintenance codes and regulations</li> </ul> <p><strong><em>Ability to:</em></strong></p> <ul> <li>Work with chemicals or similar solutions such as liquid chlorine, muriatic acid, and soda ash using personal protective equipment</li> <li>Perceive the full range of the color spectrum, such as when working with electrical wires or water testing color comparators</li> <li>Communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing</li> <li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Maintenance staff/HOA and the public</li> <li>Operate a computer and application software for maintenance and project management programs</li> <li>Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others</li> <li>Climb ladders or steps, such as getting onto roofs and into sump pits</li> <li>Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements</li> </ul>
