Overview: <br />The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for performing routine wastewater analysis as directed by the Laboratory Manager.
Responsibilities: <br /> <ul> <li>Performs routine wastewater analysis such as:</li> <ul> <li>pH</li> <li>Total Residual Chlorine (TRC)</li> <li>Dissolved Oxygen (DO)</li> <li>Ammonia (NH3)</li> <li>Nitrate &ndash; Nitrite (NO2, NO3)</li> <li>Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)</li> <li>Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5) / Carbonaceous Biochemical Oxygen Demand (CBOD5)</li> <li>Solids: TSS, VSS, TS</li> <li>Microbiological analysis</li> <li>Other methods or tests</li> </ul> <li>Implements laboratory quality assurance and quality control protocols.</li> <li>Uses and maintains instruments and equipment and performs minor troubleshooting and maintenance tasks.</li> <li>Reads, implements, reviews, and revises procedural documents.</li> <li>Understands and adheres to company health and safety procedures as they relate to job duties.</li> <li>Other duties and special assignments, as needed.</li> <li>Schedule: 7:00am-3:30pm</li> </ul>
Requirements: <br /> <p><strong><u>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>High school diploma and 5 years of relevant experience OR Lab operator certification and 2 years of experience OR Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in a scientific field, OR an equivalent mix of education and experience.</li> <li>Previous water or wastewater treatment experience is strongly preferred.</li> <li>Basic knowledge of scientific conversions and calculations.</li> <li>Basic knowledge of lab instrumentation, calibrations, analysis, and data entry.</li> <li>Ability to read technical documentation, such as state and federal regulations, permits, reference procedures, instrument manuals, and similar documents.</li> <li>Ability to handle multiple or ongoing tasks.</li> <li>Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Office 365)</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong><u>CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>C level Lab Operator Certification, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong><u>PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Weekend work, holiday work, and occasional overtime are required.</li> <li>May be required to drive between locations.</li> <li>May be required to occasionally lift or carry 20-40 pounds.</li> <li>Work requires exposure to weather, fumes, pathogens, loud noises, and toxic/caustic chemicals.</li> <li>Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.</li> <li>Current COVID-19 protocols are in place, including social distancing and wearing masks around co-workers.</li> </ul>
