Overview: <p><strong>JOB FUNCTION/ PURPOSE</strong></p> <p>The Crew Chief is responsible for training and overseeing the daily activities of the Utility Technician staff in a wide range of duties such as laying pipes, lines, water meters, and other various activities.</p>
Responsibilities: <LI>Assumes responsibility for insuring the efficient and effective operation of the Utility Technician department by:</LI></UL> <LI>Ensuring that prescribed schedules and operating policies and procedures are followed.</LI><LI>Making recommendations regarding improved operating systems and procedures.</LI><LI>Allocating work and providing technical direction, assistance, and training to other personnel.</LI></UL> <LI>Organizes schedules and emergency repairs in plants</LI><LI>Advises purchasing on the equipment required for the work</LI><LI>Ensures proper grounds maintenance such as cutting grass, weeds, brush, trimming trees, and any other related duties are completed</LI><LI>Responds to call outs and after hour emergencies</LI><LI>Excavates with mechanical equipment and hand tools</LI><LI>Operate various equipment – probing rod, motor vehicle, portable generators, pumps, chain saws, chop saws, jacks, sewer cleaning machine, etc.</LI><LI>Cleans and washes vehicles, tools, and equipment</LI><LI>Checks oil levels and greases equipment</LI><LI>Creates and completes work orders</LI><LI>Diagnoses problems and performs repairs in water and sewer systems</LI><LI>Installs and repairs water and sewer taps</LI><LI>Installs water lines, sewer lines, manholes, cleanouts, meter sets, etc.</LI><LI>Understands and adheres to all company health and safety procedures as they relate to essential job functions.</LI></UL>
Requirements: <p><em><strong>Education/Experience</strong></em>: High School Diploma or GED and 3-5 years Distribution/Collection System experience. Previous supervisory experience preferred.</p> <p><em><strong>Licenses/Certifications</strong></em>: Valid Driver&rsquo;s License (Class A CDL required in order to drive combination rig of truck, trailer &amp; backhoe) and maintains insurable driving record. Level 3 or 4 Distribution/Collection System Operator license or Water/Wastewater License. One Call training and certificate.</p> <p><em><strong>Technical</strong></em>: Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications &amp; internet. Ability to work with basic office equipment &amp; phone systems. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, DOT regulations &amp; Utility SOPs.</p> <p><em><strong>Communication</strong></em>: Communicates clearly &amp; professionally. Contributes to a positive internal &amp; external customer experience. Maintains composure in challenging situations. Collaborates with others. Asks for constructive feedback.
