Chief Financial Officer

Overview: <p>The LSU Foundation seeks a dynamic and innovative Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with a unique combination of leadership skills and the ability to plan and direct a complex set of administrative and support services. The ideal candidate must have substantial financial leadership experience; strong visibility within the higher education community; knowledge of local, federal, state and university policies and procedures; familiarity with transformative trends in the field; aptitude and creativity to work within complex financial constraints and an increasing regulatory environment; a keen ability to make high-impact business decisions with positive long-term consequences for the foundation; and the capacity to exercise effective leadership.&nbsp;</p> <p>Reporting to the President and CEO of the LSU Foundation &amp; Vice President of Institutional Advancement for LSU, the CFO plays a critical role in developing and implementing fiscal management and reporting strategies across the organization. Within this financially complex foundation, the CFO will provide a breadth of expertise, supervision and guidance in the areas of accounting, financial reporting and analysis, audit oversight and management, internal control, budgeting and forecasting, and financial investment accounting. &nbsp;</p> <p>It is critically important that the CFO develop a strong partnership with the President and the Foundation&rsquo;s board of directors. Regular communication with the board is expected regarding relevant committees, as well as collaboration on financial operations and other strategic matters. Therefore, having the technical, as well as the human skills necessary to structure the business activities of an institutionally related foundation is of the highest priority.&nbsp;</p>
Responsibilities: <p><strong>Immediate Priorities</strong></p> <ul> <li>Quickly get to know the LSU Foundation as a whole &ndash; its leadership, culture, programs, infrastructure, finances and the substantive issues critical to the organization; establish relationships within the University, the Tiger Athletic Foundation, and LSU Alumni Association;</li> <li>Gain a comprehensive grasp of the Foundation&rsquo;s current budget; become familiar with the current allocation of resources; monitor and control costs and continually drive efficiencies;</li> <li>Review the Foundation&rsquo;s financial and investment functions; determine the systems, processes and infrastructure that should be in place and update as necessary; provide enhanced reporting and analysis which helps to inform decision-making, long-range strategic planning, creativity, flexibility and responsiveness;&nbsp;</li> <li>Establish a strong working relationship with the Foundation&rsquo;s President and CEO and Board of Directors, as well as the University President and his staff;&nbsp;</li> <li>Provide sound advice and up-to-date reporting in support of the Foundation&rsquo;s comprehensive billion plus campaign; quickly develop a nuts-and-bolts understanding of the effort; identify and track costs and projections; take a hardline look at critical decisions and keep campaign costs in check; regularly update the Board on progress and any concerns related to the campaign.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong>Ongoing Responsibilities</strong>&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Partner with President and CEO to provide overall financial vision and leadership.</li> <li>Oversee and direct the general business operations of the Foundation, including accounting, budgeting, tax-related reporting, accounts payable, and gift processing.&nbsp;</li> <li>Oversee the Assistant Vice President of Financial Services in ensuring procedures and computer application systems maintain proper financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and afford adequate accounting controls and services.</li> <li>Manage and oversee all investment related activities, including internal non-endowed pool management and Outsourced CIO (OCIO) endowment model.&nbsp;</li> <li>Oversee policy compliance and management of the Board of Regents Support Fund matching program for chairs and professorships, including related donor agreements and fiscal reporting requirements.&nbsp;</li> <li>Oversee all IRS compliance, including gift receipts and IRS Form 990 preparation and filing.</li> <li>Assist the President &amp; CEO in identifying new funding opportunities.&nbsp;</li> <li>Provide strategic recommendations to the President and CEO based on financial analysis and projections.</li> <li>Assist in coordination and management of financial components of all capital projects via the LSU Property Foundation (LSUPF) and the LSU Real Estate and Facilities Foundation (REFF).</li> <li>Hold officer positions in LSUPF &amp; the LSU REFF, as well as manager roles in various LLC projects.&nbsp;</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Finance, Business Administration or other relevant field of study. Master&rsquo;s degree preferred;</li> <li>Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation;</li> <li>Proven senior-level, problem-solving and planning capability and sizeable financial, investments responsibility in the academic/higher education, public, private or nonprofit sector; a seasoned executive who can support the Foundation by means of both strategic and hands-on financial leadership; who can overcome hurdles and handle multiple projects simultaneously;</li> <li>A supreme strategist who uses his or her knowledge of finance and investments to drive strategic business decisions;&nbsp;</li> <li>A dedicated leader/manager, ideally familiar with the complexities of a multidimensional academic institution or foundation; a strong professional presence, able to quickly instill a sense of confidence with numbers, consistency of reporting, transparency, financial accountability and ownership;</li> <li>A collaborative and team-oriented style combined with the ability and desire to achieve a high level of productivity and success; someone who can build consensus and affect change; must impart good judgement, enthusiasm and integrity, and motivate others in the same vein; with a temperament which conveys flexibility and responsiveness, while at the same time sustaining one&rsquo;s ability to be decisive and hold others fiscally accountable;&nbsp;</li> <li>Outstanding communication skills &ndash; articulate and persuasive verbally and in writing; able to speak to finance and investments in simple and accurate terms; able to effectively relate to the Board, staff, and the University community in general;&nbsp;</li> <li>Experience in exercising discretion in a complex, evolving environment; collaborative and team-oriented style combined with the ability and desire to achieve a high level of productivity and success.</li> </ul>
