Overview: Reporting to the Senior Director of Donor Relations, the Director of Donor and Volunteer Engagement will develop, implement and execute a comprehensive engagement program intended to support both the Principal Gifts and Leadership Volunteer arms of the LSU Foundation&rsquo;s development operation. This position will serve as a subject-matter expert and resource for all LSU affiliates, colleges, units; and campuses belonging to the LSU system and collaborate at the highest level with LSU Leadership to ensure the University&rsquo;s most generous donors and volunteers are actively and intentionally connected to their giving, and by extension, the University and community at large.
Responsibilities: <p><u><strong>Donor Engagement Strategy</strong></u>:</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for the strategic development, management and coordination of the University&rsquo;s comprehensive donor engagement efforts, both locally and in key out-of-state markets.&nbsp;</li> <li>Analyze donor behavior to drive broad-based communications, experiential and event engagement tactics that deepen donor relationships.&nbsp;</li> <li>Establish and maintain a comprehensive annual calendar of donor touches and collaborate with campus partners to ensure that stakeholders are well informed of upcoming activities.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><u><strong>Principal Gift Engagement Plans:</strong></u></p> <ul> <li>Work closely with major and principal gift officers to identify and generate engagement opportunities and new initiatives to enhance donor experiences. &nbsp;</li> <li>Strategically direct and develop individualized engagement plans for the University&rsquo;s top donors and leadership-level volunteers, working in close collaboration with the Principal Gifts team and other key stakeholders.&nbsp;</li> <li>Partner with LSU affiliates, colleges, units, and campuses to craft meaningful events, activities, donor communications and other touches that unite University needs with the unique passions of top donors and volunteers.&nbsp;</li> <li>Lead an annual review of existing engagement strategies with leadership and fundraising colleagues. &nbsp;</li> <li>Update the outcomes of completed tasks and build new touches for the following 18 months.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><u><strong>Volunteer Management:</strong></u></p> <ul> <li>Work closely with leadership to develop unique programming, communications and events for select volunteer boards.&nbsp;</li> <li>Create meeting schedules, agendas, leadership briefing materials, and training resources and coordinating logistics for regular meetings.&nbsp;</li> <li>Oversee the annual day on campus, which positions volunteers to be advocates for LSU.&nbsp;</li> <li>Manage volunteer information and participation in the donor database, maintain updated conflict of interest and confidentiality disclosures and create an archival process for past materials.&nbsp;</li> <li>Establishes follow-up plans after each board engagement and collect evaluations to obtain and measure feedback. &nbsp;</li> <li>Synthesize volunteer feedback regarding meetings, engagement and training needs, into regular reports for future meeting plans.</li> </ul> <p><u><strong>Supervise Engagement Team:&nbsp;</strong></u></p> <ul> <li>Mentor and manage engagement team members, identifying areas of growth and professional development needed for each member to excel.&nbsp;</li> <li>Participate in regular face-to-face meetings, set and review annual goals and objectives, identify areas of growth, including but not limited to formal professional development activities.&nbsp;</li> <li>Works closely with other Donor Relations team leads to ensure effective and streamlined processes across functions.&nbsp;</li> <li>Support efforts of donor relations colleagues as needed during peak periods. &nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><u><strong>Marginal Duties &amp; Responsibilities</strong></u></p> <ul> <li>Utilizes Advance to track, monitor, and manage engagement activities for principal gift donors and prospects, and volunteers. Develop and track engagement activity and implement a system of engagement metrics to evaluate programming and determine the return on investment.&nbsp;</li> <li>Serves as project lead for the development of the Foundation&rsquo;s donor/volunteer engagement plan and collaborates with the Senior Director of Donor Relations in departmental strategic planning.</li> <li>Participates in and contributes to the University-wide Donor Relations Council.</li> <li>Identifies educational resources and opportunities for the colleges, units and campuses pertaining to donor and volunteer engagement.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree and a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a development, nonprofit or university setting, with an emphasis in donor relations, stewardship, volunteer management or fundraising.&nbsp;</li> <li>Proven project management experience along with demonstrated analytical, strategic-thinking, adaptability, communication and relationship-building skills are essential.</li> <li>Proficiency in philanthropic fund management and reporting, and corporate and departmental accounting practices, procedures and principles.</li> <li>Working knowledge of databases such as Raiser&rsquo;s Edge, Advance or similar and expert proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint.</li> <li>Experience managing low and high-profile events.</li> <li>Experience developing presentations, reports and training programs. &nbsp;</li> <li>Must be extraordinarily organized, demonstrate a meticulous attention to detail, be able to work effectively in a team and juggle multiple and varied tasks simultaneously.</li> <li>Professional demeanor, good interpersonal skills, strong initiative, organizational skills, discipline, diplomatic, and the ability to relate to a wide range of groups.</li> <li>Ability to work well independently, as a member of a group or committee.</li> <li>Leadership, flexibility, efficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments.&nbsp;</li> <li>At least two years of direct supervisory experience required.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong>Preferred Knowledge &amp; Skill Qualifications&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>Master&rsquo;s degree and/or Certified Fund-raising Executive (CFRE) is desirable.&nbsp;</li> <li>Experience working on large and complex fundraising projects especially major, multi-year capital campaigns, with specific experience in donor stewardship.&nbsp;</li> <li>Exceptional written and oral communication skills and experience writing and producing fundraising and development communications.</li> <li>Ideal candidate will have regularly participated in professional associations such as the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, Association of Donor Relations Professionals, Association of Advancement Services Professional or Association of Fundraising Professionals.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Supervisory Responsibilities&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>&nbsp;Manages two staff members with the expectation of growing the donor engagement team.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong>Work Environment Requirements&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>May be required to occasionally work extended workdays, evenings and weekends.</li> </ul>
