Seasoned Fundraiser

Overview: <p>A newly created leadership position under the direction of the Vice President for Development, the Executive&nbsp;Director of Gift Planning leads and manages all aspects of the institution's planned giving program and will play a vital role in the development and successful completion of an eventual billion plus capital campaign. Responsibilities include identifying and motivating donors to consider significant commitments through deferred gift plans or with non-cash assets; often coordinating with financial, estate, tax, real estate, or other allied advisors as needed; consulting with development colleagues on gift structures; partnering with the communication team to coordinate the marketing of planned giving services; manage a number of current and prospective donors; and collaborate on gift planning efforts with colleagues at other foundations and campuses within the LSU System.</p> <p>The vision of the LSU Foundation is to catalyze transformational philanthropic support for LSU. Responsibilities: <p><strong>ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p> <hr /> <ul> <li>Assess current planned giving operations, and establish an ambitious and aspirational plan to reinvigorate and fully integrate a collaborative, holistic approach that is both proactive and reactive across the development enterprise.</li> <li>Establish annual and long-term fundraising goals to significantly grow deferred gifts in number and impact on the university as well as operational goals including staff growth, campus training, and an increased presence and role of planned giving officers among development teams to create collaborative cultivation plans and programs that raise the bar for larger gifts.</li> <li>Cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of current and prospective donors, meeting or exceeding annual metric goals. Create written strategic action plans for best prospects with the intent of deepening relationships that lead to increased comprehensive giving including annual, major and deferred gifts.</li> <li>Lead direct report(s) with a focus on accountability, best practices and collaboration.&nbsp;</li> <li>Manage planned giving team with a focus on accountability and best practices.</li> <li>Prepare and provide technical tax and financial planning information for prospective donors and their advisors.</li> <li>Adhere to prospect management guidelines and provide timely and appropriate documentation of interactions and solicitations.</li> <li>In collaboration with the Principal Gifts working group, support donors in their planning and execution of principal gifts that may involve a wide variety of assets and gift vehicles.</li> <li>Working with the Communication team, develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan.</li> <li>In coordination with Donor Relations, review current stewardship efforts and partner in revising the plan for stewardship and recongition activities for deferred gift donors.</li> <li>In conjunction with the General Counsel, monitor the status of estates in probate, provide input on gift policies and guidelines, and provide advice on donor relationship/stewardship aspects of deferred gift investment policies.</li> <li>Monitor current laws and issues impacting financial, estate, and charitable gift planning, and communicate appropriate information to staff.</li> <li>Work collaboratively with the Tiger Athletic Foundation, LSU Alumni Association and eventually other campuses within the LSU System to significantly increase deferred gifts to LSU.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p> <hr /> <ul> <li>Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university</li> <li>At least 10 years of experience in development, planned giving, finance, estate planning or related fields with transferable skills</li> <li>Managerial experience within a development focused environment</li> <li>Proven track record in personally generating and soliciting planned gifts in the amount of $500,000 and above, preferably in a complex public university environment</li> <li>Technical knowledge and expertise in the areas of financial, estate and tax planning strategies, and marketing/demographic trends as they relate to gift planning</li> </ul> <p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p> <hr /> <ul> <li>Superb interpersonal skills and ability to build productive, beneficial relationships with a broad range of constituencies</li> <li>Demonstrated strategic, leadership and management capabilities in a comprehensive development environment</li> <li>Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including ability to effectively communication University priorities to donors and prospects, and to positively represent the University and Foundation</li> <li>Ability to handle multiple tasks, to assess and order priorities, and to track details in a fast-paced environment</li> <li>Ability and willingness to travel and occasionally work evenings and weekends</li> </ul>
