Overview: The Tax Accountant I will be responsible for analyzing sales, use and property tax reports across the organization. This role will be responsible for determining appropriate preparation of moderate to complex sales, use and property tax returns and will assist with audits and/or research as well as communicate with state and/or local governments.
Responsibilities: &bull; Gather, analyze and review tax reports of company-wide sales and purchases, determine if tax was appropriately assessed, prepare and remit tax returns to appropriate taxing authorities. Review and test financial and tax data.<br />&bull; Prepare monthly account reconciliations to ensure proper recording of tax expenses, assets, and liabilities. Reconcile general ledger account to assure payments were applied correctly. Adjust when necessary and update other departments on any issues.<br />&bull; Review and update tax rates in La-Z-Boy systems including RMS, Enterprise (E1) and Vertex systems each month. Notify departments of tax rate changes and/or issues.<br />&bull; Gather, prepare and file information for personal property tax reporting. Review the returns to the bills received to verify reasonableness. Research taxability of various transactions and maintain in all systems. Complete and send resale/exemption certificates when needed. Research and respond to various notices from governmental tax authorities. Work with Government agencies to register and/or resolve issues.<br />&bull; Gather information for other departments, auditors and supervisors upon request. Assigned special projects as needed. Help with training and process improvements with other employees and departments.<br /><br /><strong>SCOPE &amp; IMPACT:</strong><br />Process and pay Sales and Use tax, property tax returns, reconciliations, research, and special projects. Provides guidance to internal partners regarding the taxability of their purchases by maintaining a tax matrix for their use, answering questions when they arise.
