Responsibilities: &bull; Assists in the identification of specific cutting and sewing requirements and establish the overall design direction using the guidelines provided by merchandising or the requesting department. &bull; Collaborates with lead Cover Designers in the development and breakdown of cutting and sewing requirements. Once these are identified research the current Research and Development (R&amp;D) data bases for existing parts and review their ability to be produced using existing manufacturing processes. &bull; Using the existing cutting and sewing design software assist in the creation of all required parts and enter them into the appropriate data base. &bull; Assists in the creation of a physical prototype to be reviewed against the established design criteria, internal R&amp;D design standards, and current manufacturing fabrication and assembly methods. Leads a review of this prototype with the merchandising department to obtain aesthetic and comfort approval. &bull; Reviews the creation of the preliminary sewing BOM to establish preliminary cost information and participate in the review of this information with the cost department against the established cost target. &bull; Follows all required manufacturing documentation for all cutting and sewing elements. This would include all sewing content lists, sewing notes, cut files, leather &amp; cloth books, and any other required cutting and sewing information. &bull; Adheres to new style implementation process of any new products that are created across all of the residential manufacturing plants and supply centers. &bull; Maintains the maintenance of cutting and sewing standards for the R&amp;D and manufacturing facilities. SCOPE &amp; IMPACT: The Cover Designer II is a key position on a new style design team which creates all residential designs in the four major categories of rocker recliners, motion sofas, occasional units , and stationary sofas. They are responsible for the creation of all prints and MFG specifications used in every manufacturing facility in the residential division as well as any global licensees. They are also responsible for the creation of all prints and MFG specifications for our global supply chain. The overall accuracy of their work is paramount. Any errors could have a significant negative impact on the company's ability to deliver on our brand promise and could have a significant negative impact on company's overall profit margin.
Requirements: &bull; High School Diploma or GED with 2-4 years of relevant experience or equivalent. &bull; Furniture sewing skills, overall furniture manufacturing process knowledge &bull; CNC fabric cutter knowledge &bull; Ability to interpret part prints &amp; sewing notes. &bull; Up to 10% Travel. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: &bull; Associate&rsquo;s degree in Engineering or related field SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct reports. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment / no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands. Often required to sit, repetitive hand motion (such as typing), hear, listen, talk, stand, walk and balance. Seldom required to bend, stoop, climb stairs, climb ladders, kneel, squat, and reach overhead, push, pull or Lift &ndash; up to 50 pounds. Not required to Crouch, crawl, or shovel.
