<p><strong>The Board of Water and Light serves Lansing, Michigan, and surrounding areas with electricity, water, and steam. Chartered in 1885, by a vote of Lansing's citizens, the LBWL remains a public power utility in its second century of service. Lansing's city charter vests the BWL with full and exclusive management of water, steam, and electric services for the city. The American Public Power Association has honored the Lansing Board of Water &amp; Light as one of the country's best publicly-owned utilities. Overview: <p>Responsible for high‐level network planning, design, and optimization. Develops strategies and direction for network systems solutions using current and emerging technologies (including wireless and VoIP). Translates business requirements into network or process designs.</p>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Plans and recommends network hardware, systems management software and architecture.</li> <li>Configures and maintains routers, switches, and hubs for the network systems (including wireless and VoIP).</li> <li>Monitors network performance, ensures capacity planning is performed, and is proactive in assessing and making recommendations for improvement.</li> <li>Performs troubleshooting procedures and designs resolution scrips.</li> <li>May take on the role of Project Leader for special enterprise‐wide assignments.</li> <li>Defines network architectures and designs for the organization.</li> <li>Ensure that all work is documented for future reference; follows quality standards; ensures effective and reliable operation.</li> <li>Coordinate and work with the Chief Architect, Business Relationship Manager, IT Operations Manager to assist in evaluating, designing and successfully accomplishing changes, upgrades and new implementations.</li> <li>Other duties as assigned by supervisor.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>EDUCATION:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Information Technology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.</li> </ul> <p><strong>EXPERIENCE:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Minimum of seven to ten years of network administration, trouble‐shooting and design experience that includes both IP and optical networking services within a VMware, Windows servers (or Linux servers) datacenter environment.</li> </ul> <p><strong>REQUIRED:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of network routing and switching configuration skills.</li> <li>Knowledge of LAN, WAN, and Data Centers including routing and communication protocols and network architecture.</li> <li>Experience troubleshooting in a complex environment.</li> <li>Ability to work outside of normal schedule, as directed by management.</li> <li>Ability to work in a team environment.</li> <li>Ability to be a technical expert/lead.</li> <li>Ability to retrieve data from computerized, typed and written sources.</li> <li>Ability to effectively communicate orally or in writing project recommendations with internal teams and external agencies.</li> <li>Maintains an approach to this work with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind; treating others with respect, dignity, and in a manner where individuals feel they belong; listens, values feedback, and learns from the perspectives of others.</li> <li>Strong written and oral communication skills.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Physical Requirements:</strong></p> <p>Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.</p> <p><strong>Working Conditions:</strong></p> <p>The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.</p>
