This position will provide leadership and direction in management of the financial and regulatory reporting requirements for MD Financial Management Inc. and MD Insurance Agency Ltd (MDIAL).&nbsp;</p>
Responsibilities: <p><strong>What You Will Do:</strong></p> <p>Overall ownership, including preparation and/or review, of financial statements, note disclosures, regulatory reporting and board reports on a quarterly and annual basis;</p> <p>Monitor financial performance relative to budget and prepare variance analysis for CFO and Board of Directors</p> <p>Ensure that financial reports and disclosures are prepared in compliance with internal policies and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS);</p> <p>Review financial reports monthly for completeness and accuracy;</p> <p>Overall ownership of in-depth analysis of insurance commissions (MDIAL);</p> <p>Act as the main finance contact on certain projects and ad hoc requests related to the assigned companies and /or mutual funds;</p> <p>Prepare journal entries for material transactions</p> <p>Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts for assigned companies.</p> <p>Liaise with internal and external auditors as required, review working papers for the annual financial statement audit;</p> <p>Provide advice on internal control issues and recommend and implement reporting enhancements;</p> <p>Research IFRS for key transactions, provide recommended accounting treatment and implement accounting changes;</p> <p>Research and interpret new accounting standards/guidelines to assess potential impacts on financial reporting and accounting activities;</p> <p>Ensure that required changes to regulatory reports, processes and procedures due to changes in regulatory requirements are implemented;</p> <p>Ensure that Sarbanes-Oxley requirements are met;&nbsp;</p> <p>Liaise with regulatory bodies and regulatory examiners as required.</p>
Requirements: <p><strong>What You Need:&nbsp;</strong><br />&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>You hold a university degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Commerce or Finance, plus a minimum of&nbsp;5 years&rsquo; experience in a similar position. You have received your Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.&nbsp;<br /><br />Your have knowledge of mutual funds and investment industry as well as demonstrated experience working with external, regulatory and internal auditors.&nbsp;<br />&nbsp;<br />Your experience with financial accounting software, as well as your advanced Excel and PowerPoint knowledge are key requirements of this position.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>What You Bring:</strong>&nbsp;</p> <p>Attention to detail and commitment to a quality end result are key differentiators;&nbsp;</p> <p>Strong communication skills.
