Responsibilities: <p><strong>What You&rsquo;ll Do</strong></p> <p>The Director and Senior Legal Counsel, Legal Services is accountable for leading a team of legal professionals and support staff in providing legal guidance and in-depth analysis to support all MD business units. The Director and Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and the various boards and committees to identify, assess and manage legal and regulatory risk to the enterprise.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>As leader of a team of lawyers and support staff, the Director shall</p> <ul> <li>Create an employee-oriented environment which motivates the legal team to deliver prompt, practical and cost-effective legal advice to MD&rsquo;s various business lines to facilitate, improve and strengthen operational decision-making</li> <li>Provide strategic direction, leadership and oversight to all business lines ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and internal policies and procedures.</li> <li>Actively contribute to MD&rsquo;s compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations including the identification and management of legal and regulatory risks specific to the MD lines of business</li> <li>Anticipate legal obstacles and challenges and strategize plans to address</li> <li>Collect, organize, and present market intelligence on the legal and regulatory issues affecting MD&rsquo;s core businesses</li> <li>Retain and manage outside counsel engaged in providing assistance on legal matters</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>What You Need</strong></p> <ul> <li>Law degree, member in good standing of the&nbsp;Law Society of Ontario.</li> <li>11+ years of corporate/securities law experience gained from a law firm, major financial institution and/or securities regulatory body, ideally with an emphasis on wealth and asset management.
