Full Time

Overview: Performs legal, risk management, and compliance related duties as assigned by General Counsel and/or the Executive Committee, including: Review and negotiate construction contracts, business agreements, and any other contracts entered into by the Company.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Provide advice to all departments on contracts, claims and other legal matters as requested by the General Counsel.</li> <li>Assist the General Counsel with any investigations or audits undertaken by the Legal Department.</li> <li>Proactively identify risk and implement risk mitigation plans and in doing so interpret, manage, and update various internal policies, templates, and requirements.</li> <li>Assist the General Counsel in ensuring the Company&rsquo;s compliance with government and corporate governance requirements.</li> <li>Monitor changes in applicable law and advise management regarding the implications of such changes in biannual legal report.</li> <li>Handle initial legal inquiries from within the company and under General Counsel approval issue legal opinions and summaries as necessary.</li> <li>Assist the General Counsel in managing outside counsel and work closely with Risk Management to resolve claims with third parties in litigation, mediation, and arbitration.</li> <li>Conduct and support training on legal and compliance related topics, including but not limited to risk mitigation and claims avoidance.</li> <li>Assist in drafting letters relating to contract administration, claim resolution, and other issues for project teams to send to subcontractors, clients and other third parties.</li> <li>Regularly audit subcontractors&rsquo; agreements and COIs to confirm in compliance with McKenney&rsquo;s insurance and indemnification requirements.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Juris Doctor degree from an accredited college or university required.</li> <li>Three years of Legal, Compliance, Contract Negotiation, Insurance or Construction Litigation, and/or Risk Management Experience.</li> <li>Member of the Georgia Bar (or ability to become an active member within 12 months of employment).</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p> <ul> <li>Construction law, Contract review, Insurance, and/or Risk Management experience.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS</strong></p> <ul> <li>Must be a self-starter, with ability to work well as part of a team and independently.</li> <li>Confident in complex, demanding situations and negotiations.</li> <li>Must project a professional and polished image that inspires confidence and trust.</li> <li>Strong working knowledge of risk and legal principles, concepts, and techniques.</li> <li>Develop and maintain deep knowledge of the Company&rsquo;s business strategy.</li> <li>Able to deal with ambiguity and still make appropriate judgment calls.</li> <li>Able to anticipate manager and company needs and independently identify, initiate, and implement necessary actions.</li> <li>Ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with constant interruptions.</li> <li>Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, analytical skills, attention-to-detail, and critical thinking skills.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT</strong></p> <ul> <li>Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.</li> <li>No or very limited exposure to physical risk.</li> <li>No or very limited physical effort required.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>This job plan is intended to describe, in broad terms, the general functions and responsibility levels of this position.
