Overview: <p>With limited supervision, performs several simple and routine laboratory procedures and tests; collects, processes, and disposes of specimens.&nbsp; Serves as receptionist and performs the laboratory-related clerical duties associated with the requisitioning and reporting system of the Laboratory department.</p>
Responsibilities: 1. Performs venipuncture and capillary collections and processes specimens.<br />2. Performs EKG&rsquo;s and processes tracings.<br />3. Cleans and maintains equipment utilized.<br />4. Receives, rotates, and stores general lab supplies. Performs inventory and stocks assigned specimen collection material.<br />5. Performs routine and special glassware washing and quality control checks needed to maintain CAP accreditation<br />6. Maintains good housekeeping of lab outpatient area and conducts special cleaning of work areas.<br />7. Performs clerical duties: <div style="padding-left: 30px;">a. Receives, logs, and insures appropriate disposition of specimens, requisitions, and charges.</div> <div style="padding-left: 30px;">b. Receives, sorts, and insures appropriate disposition of reports.</div> <div style="padding-left: 30px;">c. Receives and assists outpatients, visitors and physicians with specimen collection, orders, inquiries, and reports.</div> <div style="padding-left: 30px;">d. Answers telephone, relays messages, and communicates results.</div> <div style="padding-left: 30px;">e. Types routine memos and correspondence.</div> <div style="padding-left: 30px;">f. Utilizes office equipment and computer CRT/printer to accomplish duties.</div> 8. Processes and accessions specimens received through pneumatic tube system. <div style="padding-left: 30px;">a. Retrieves incoming specimens; checks for suitability and receives into the computer system.</div> <div style="padding-left: 30px;">b. Centrifuges and distributes specimens to appropriate departments of Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology, Urinalysis and Microbiology.</div> <div style="padding-left: 30px;">c. Researches and prepares send-out tests and completes the link manifest.</div> <div style="padding-left: 30px;">d. Performs other miscellaneous activities required for continuous workflow.</div> 9. Adheres to CHC Customer Service Standards and promotes a service orientation in the performance of <div style="padding-left: 30px;">job duties and responsibilities and in interactions with patients, visitors and other CHC staff members.</div> 10. Participates in and applies CHC Six Sigma methodologies in initiatives and projects to enhance and <div style="padding-left: 30px;">improve CHC and/or departmental operations, processes and procedures.</div> 11. Adheres to and complies with the Personal Respiratory Protection Program requirements. Assigned <div style="padding-left: 30px;">Personal Respiratory Protection is to be worn when the potential exists for exposure to patients with known</div> <div style="padding-left: 30px;">or suspected illnesses spread by the airborne route.</div>
Requirements: <p><strong>Work Experience:&nbsp; <br /></strong>One year full time employment as a phlebotomist unless education and training criteria has been met.</p> <p><strong>Education &amp; Training: </strong></p> <ol> <li>Has successfully completed a NAACLS-approved formal education program in Phlebotomy; or</li> <li>Successfully completed a formal education program that includes a clinical and didactic phlebotomy, medical assistant, laboratory assistant program; or</li> <li>Must be high school graduate and completed one year full time work experience.</li> </ol> <p><strong>Licensure/Certification:&nbsp; <br /></strong>None</p> <p><strong>Skills: </strong></p> <ol> <li>Familiarity with biological and medical terminology.</li> <li>Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to interact with persons of varying backgrounds and education level.</li> <li>Average typing skills.</li> </ol>
