Overview: <p>The practice of a physician assistant shall include medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant that are delegated by the supervising physician.&nbsp;</p> <p>This position would oversee the coordination of Geriatricians' patient schedules; oversee the surgical scheduling process as it pertains to the Wakefield campus joint replacement co-management clearance process; oversee any and all Quality Improvement initiatives and projects. Responsibilities may also include overseeing completion and submission of routine and special reports, oversee various research protocols; data preparation for departmental studies and/or projects. Responsibilities: <ul> <li>The clinician&nbsp;will integrate management/leadership skills into daily clinical/administrative practice.</li> <li>Responsible for developing and implementing policies, protocols, and procedures that will ensure efficiency.</li> <li>The clinician's responsibilities include&nbsp;working with all clinical staff within the joint replacement center at Montefiore, including office staff, preoperative clinical staff as well as staff on the inpatient unit, as well as patients and their family members.</li> <li>The clinician&nbsp;will&nbsp;communicate with Internal Medicine/Co-management physicians as well as communicate with patient's physicians within or outside the Montefiore system, as well as office staff,&nbsp;to coordinate and obtain pertinent health information as needed to assess and medically clear each patient for surgery.</li> <li>The clinician&nbsp;will be responsible for teaching, regarding preoperative education when needed.</li> <li>The clinician will be responsible for performance improvement and research activities, maintaining professional practice standards and clinical expertise, and demonstrate leadership skills. The clinician will demonstrate core and unit specific competencies, based on the patient population served.</li> <li>Manage Geriatrician pre-operative assessment schedules as well as the operative schedules. This will ensure a smooth process for the patient with minimal cancellations.</li> <li>The clinician&nbsp;contributes to the actualization of the philosophy and objectives of the department of orthopedic surgery, and the Montefiore Center for joint replacement surgery. They&nbsp;participate&nbsp;in performance improvement and research activities, and maintains professional practice standards and clinical expertise.</li> <li>The clinician&nbsp;will assist the medical team in performing complete preoperative medical evaluations for patients who will be undergoing orthopedic surgery. This will include physical assessment, ordering specific lab tests, interpretation of lab data, assessment of patient's current medications, as well as recommendations for any changes of medication therapy preoperative. The clinician/coordinator will understand and utilize guidelines that will ensure patient's safety for surgical procedures and anesthesia. The clinician must be self-directed and semi-autonomous.&nbsp;</li> <li>Participate in the department's performance improvement activities. Navigate multi-disciplinary staff through established process improvement initiatives using proper methodologies.</li> <li>Participate in recruitment and training of PA students; participate in developing policies and procedures.</li> <li>Represent the leadership of the department on committees, acting as the liaison of the department to other clinical and non-clinical departments.&nbsp;</li> </ul>
