Overview: The practice of a Physician Assistant shall include medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant that are delegated by the supervising physician. <br /> <br />Responsibilities may also include overseeing completion and submission of routine and special reports. <br /> <br />Medical services rendered by physician assistants may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations; ordering and/or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing and implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; assisting at surgery; offering counseling and education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals. <br /> <br />The activities listed above may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, nursing homes and other institution settings.<br /><br />This vacancy will be posted on internal Career Website for 5 business days.<br /><br />Associates are eligible to apply for a lateral transfer after completion of one (1) year of service in their present position, with the following exception: an Associate who has received a written warning is not eligible for a transfer/promotion prior to six (6) months from date of issuance; an Associate who has been suspended is not eligible for transfer/promotion prior to one (1) year from date of suspension. Part-time Associates who have completed their probationary period can move to full-time vacancies within their department provided such movement will not unreasonably reduce the operational efficiency of that department. Probationary period is three (3) months for full-time employees, and four (4) months for part-time employees who works more than 3/5 of the normal workweek.<br />
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Working with all clinical staff at Montefiore, including office staff, preoperative clinical staff as well as staff on the unit, as well as patient's &amp; their family members</li> <li>Communicate with Internal Medicine/Co-management physicians as well as communicate with patient's physicians within or outside the Montefiore system, as well as office staff, to coordinate &amp; obtain pertinent health information as needed to assess &amp; medically clear each patient for surgery</li> <li>Teaching, regarding preoperative education when needed</li> <li>Performance improvement &amp; research activities, maintaining professional practice standards &amp; clinical expertise, &amp; demonstrating leadership skills. The clinician will demonstrate core &amp; unit specific competencies, based on the patient population served</li> <li>Contributes to the actualization of the philosophy &amp; objectives of the dept of orthopedic surgery, &amp; the Montefiore Center for joint replacement surgery. They participate in performance improvement &amp; research activities, &amp; maintains professional practice standards &amp; clinical expertise</li> <li>Help the medical team perform complete preoperative medical evaluations for patients undergoing orthopedic surgery. This will include physical assessment, ordering specific lab tests, interpreting lab data, assessing the patient's current medications, and recommending changes of medication therapy preoperative. The clinician/coordinator will understand &amp; utilize guidelines that will ensure patient's safety for surgical procedures &amp; anesthesia. The clinician must be self-directed &amp; semi-autonomous.</li> <li>Participate in dept performance improvement activities. Navigate multi-disciplinary staff through established process improvement initiatives using proper methodologies.</li> </ul> <br />
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree required</li> <li>NYS PA License</li> <li>Certified by NCCPA</li> <li>Physical assessment skills, EMR proficiency</li> <li>Managing multiple schedules simultaneously.</li> <li>Coordinating &amp; reconciling patient care with outside clinical entities.</li> <li>Prioritizing care based on clinical needs of patients (inpatient &amp; outpatient)</li> </ul> <br />
