Part-time Associates who have completed their probationary period can move to full-time vacancies within their department provided such movement will not unreasonably reduce the operational efficiency of that department. Probationary period is three (3) months for full-time employees, and four (4) months for part-time employees who works more than 3/5 of the normal workweek.<br /> <br />Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for the laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. Utilizing the latest advances in computer technology, the Division maintains millions of dollars of state-of-the-art automated equipment at its laboratory sites and services hospitals, nursing homes, the Montefiore Medical Group, faculty practices, and voluntary physicians' offices at more than 40 sites. <br /><br /> Perform routine and emergency tests on blood and other body fluids using a variety of automated and manual instrumentation in a timely manner. Maintain equipment and records according to department procedures and regulatory agencies guidelines in the areas of QA and QC. Use independent judgment to solve technical and procedural problems. In some instances, ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time is necessary. <br /> <p>This position is located at the Moses campus in the Chemistry Lab. The hours are 12:00 am--8:30am with alternate weekends.</p> <p>Enjoy the rewards of working in the Lab at Montefiore. Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment, depending on procedure. &nbsp;Monitor specimens to ensure work is completed</li> <li>Review data prior to release</li> <li>Report all panic, abnormal, etc. values</li> <li>Maintain quality control data on tests performed, resolve QC failures and document actions as stipulated by laboratory procedures</li> <li>Prepare reagents and take inventory, and advise supervisor as required</li> <li>Maintain all records of work performed and keep maintenance logs of equipment</li> <li>Assist with answering the telephone and perform order entry in the LIS system, as necessary</li> <li>May have individual responsibility for the work of a laboratory unit and may provide leadership for technicians</li> <li>Assist with the training of new employees</li> <li>Maintain clean work area in accordance with Infection Control guidelines</li> <li>Perform other laboratory related tasks under the direction of a supervisor as needed</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Position requires at least a Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in a physical science, medical technology preferred</li> <li>New York State Department of Education Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or a limited permit are required. Applicants must obtain the provisional permit within the probationary period of three month for continued employment. Prior to obtaining the provisional permit, associates may not release any patient reports</li> <li>Laboratory and hospital information system computers, variety of automated equipment and other laboratory equipment is required</li> </ul>
