Overview: The practice of a Physician Assistant shall include medical services within the education, training &amp; experience of the PA that are delegated by the supervising physician. Medical services rendered may include but are not limited to obtaining patient histories &amp; performing physical examinations; ordering &amp;/or performing diagnostic &amp; therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing &amp; implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; assisting in surgical procedures; offering counseling &amp; education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals. <br /> <br />The Surgical Physician Assistant, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease &amp;/or perform any medical &amp; surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Prescribes medications for the patient.</li> <li>Communicates effectively with members of the health care team &amp; the patient &amp; involved others.</li> <li>Participates in a team approach to health care, acts as a liaison between members of the primary care team;</li> <li>Performs emergency, lifesaving procedures in the presence of life-threatening situations such as: cardiac arrest, massive hemorrhage or similar problems. Technical skills include but are not limited to, providing basic life support &amp; advanced life support.</li> <li>In collaboration with the Attending Physician / health care providers, the PA will coordinate the care of the patient.</li> <li>Performs procedures that may include insertion &amp; removal of arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, Swann-Ganz catheters, intra-aortic balloons, temporary pacemaker wires, renal dialysis catheters, thoracentesis, paracentesis, arthrocentesis &amp; lumbar puncture. In addition, performs venipuncture &amp; arteriopuncture.</li> <li>May assist the Orthopaedic Surgeons in the OR, for both inpatient &amp; ambulatory cases.</li> <li>Performs other duties, as necessary.</li> </ul> <br />
Requirements: <ul> <li>Master's Degree from an accredited Physician&rsquo;s Assistant program.</li> <li>Registered as a Physician&rsquo;s Assistant in New York State.</li> <li>NCCPA certified.</li> <li>Automated medical information systems</li> <li>Must demonstrate the ability to administer medications to meet age &amp; weight criteria of patient for pediatrics, adult, &amp; geriatric age groups.</li> <li>Demonstrates knowledge of physiological &amp; psychological patient differences in age-related groups</li> <li></li> </ul>
