Overview: In coordination with the Director of Environmental Health and Safety, the Construction Safety Manager implements and maintains comprehensive safety programs focused on fire safety, life safety, hazardous material compliance, workplace safety, and construction safety. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all construction projects across Montefiore Health System (MHS), including facilities such as MMC (Moses, Wakefield, Weiler, Hutchinson, and Westchester Square Campuses), MMV and MNR, Montefiore Nyack, and Montefiore St. Luke's (Newburgh and Cornwall Campuses), adhere to applicable safety regulations and policies.<br /><br />The Construction Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including but not limited to those from OSHA, TJC, EPA, CMS, DEC, FDNY, DOH, DOT, and DEP. This role focuses on proactive risk identification and mitigation to maintain safe construction environments while supporting the operational needs of the healthcare system.
Responsibilities: As the lead for construction safety, the manager collaborates closely with project managers, contractors, and departmental leadership to ensure a seamless integration of safety protocols into all phases of construction. They will develop and deliver targeted training, coordinate safety inspections, and lead investigations into construction-related incidents to drive continuous improvement.
Requirements: <ul> <li>Masters degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field is required</li> <li>Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety, healthcare compliance, or a related field required</li> <li>Expertise in conducting investigations, delivering safety training, and comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, and other relevant regulatory requirements is essential.</li> <li>Preferred certifications include OSHA Outreach Instructor for general industry or construction and additional safety credentials such as CHST or CSP.</li> <li>Possesses strong regulatory compliance expertise, including the ability to evaluate information and ensure construction activities meet all safety and regulatory standards.</li> <li>Excels in independent investigations and systems analysis, identifying key performance indicators and implementing improvements.</li> <li>Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for effectively conveying safety protocols and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.</li> <li>Demonstrated leadership in designing and delivering engaging, audience-specific training programs</li> </ul>
