Overview: <p><span style="font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Verdana',sans-serif;">The Functional Analyst, Senior is responsible for gathering, analyzing and documenting business or system processes and requirements for NJM&rsquo;s applications. This role will work closely with all Project and Business&nbsp;team members throughout the project lifecycle.&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;"><span style="font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Verdana',sans-serif;">This role may be required to lead other team members and coordinate work efforts, assist in problem and solution scoping, effectively communicate requirements, and may get involved in quality assurance.</span></p>
Responsibilities: <p><strong>Analysis/Technical Skills:<br /><br /></strong></p> <ul> <li>Lead and coordinate requirements planning &amp; monitoring activities for project delivery.</li> <li>Collaborate with applicable stakeholders to understand and diagram existing or new business processes using a variety of modeling techniques.</li> <li>Elicit, capture and document requirements independently; prepare and maintain documentation utilizing user stories, use cases, diagrams, or other requirement management templates and tools.</li> <li>Understand and demonstrate proficiency in applying appropriate requirements elicitation techniques (interviews, surveys, brainstorming sessions, etc.).</li> <li>Well versed with estimation methodologies; provide estimates for assignments independently and lead team members with task estimation.</li> <li>Lead meetings and drive team interaction, as well as foster business relationships.</li> <li>Understand in detail the features, functions, and capabilities of package solutions in order to achieve proper business requirements alignment and adaptation to package as needed.</li> <li>Assist in the investigation and resolution of incidents as needed.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Quality:<br /><br /></strong></p> <ul> <li>Complete assignments within expected timeframes.</li> <li>Produce high-quality artifacts with a minimal level of re-work by leveraging peer reviews to ensure the accuracy of deliverables and adherence to standards.</li> <li>Review artifacts produced by team members and provide constructive feedback.</li> <li>Regularly confirm expectations and proactively provide due dates for assignments.</li> <li>Proactively communicate status of assignments, identify gaps/issues which will impact targeted timeframes for deliverables, and communicate potential solutions for successful delivery.</li> <li>Participate in testing activities; coordinate defect triage efforts.</li> <li>Understand, follow, and actively promote IT department best practices and standards.</li> <li>Lead project meetings as necessary for successful delivery.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Continuous Improvement &amp; Product Knowledge:<br /><br /></strong></p> <ul> <li>Proactively seek mentoring from senior team members.</li> <li>Preserve/continue to develop an in-depth knowledge of multiple application&rsquo;s current implementations as well as available features and functionality; mentor others on such.</li> <li>Through self-study and mentoring, remain informed of industry wide trends and departmental/company strategic initiatives.</li> <li>Proactively contribute to design of solutions by providing SME support.&nbsp; Evaluate effectiveness and completeness of proposed solutions.</li> <li>Lead process improvement initiatives for the individual, functional group/team, department or organization and drive implementation to increase effectiveness and efficiency.</li> <li>Work with vendors to implement solutions that support NJMs current and future needs.</li> <li>Recommend new features and functions that could add value to existing solutions.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Work Coordination and Delivery Support:<br /><br /></strong></p> <ul> <li>Mentor team members and drive work toward a successful delivery of efficient solutions.</li> <li>Lead other analysts when assigned; provide guidance for their deliverables.</li> <li>Plan and coordinate team activities for operational support work.</li> <li>Understand scope of authority; recognize when to make decisions or escalate to higher levels.</li> <li>Tailor communications to audience&rsquo;s needs and level of understanding.</li> <li>Ensure that business needs are met as work evolves.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Knowledge and experience in Commercial Lines Insurance</li> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in related field or equivalent experience.</li> <li>In-depth knowledge and experience of different requirements gathering tools and techniques (use cases, diagramming, process modeling, interviews, workshops, etc.).</li> <li>In-depth knowledge and experience of multiple project delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.).</li> <li>Proven experience leading and coordinating teamwork efforts.</li> <li>Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change.</li> <li>Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.</li> <li>Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.</li> <li>Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.</li> <li>Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Required Length and Type of Experience:<em><br /><br /></em></strong></p> <ul> <li>6+ years of experience as a Business Analyst (working with Personal &amp; Commercial Insurance products is preferred).</li> <li>8+ years of experience in software delivery.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Required Certifications or Licenses: </strong></p> <p>Any certifications or licenses related to the following areas are of value:</p> <ul> <li>Agile project delivery</li> <li>Business Analysis</li> <li>Property &amp; Casualty Insurance</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Legal Disclaimer: NJM is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
