No.: R0001639</strong><br /><br />The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (the National Academies) is the nation&rsquo;s leading independent voice on many crucial issues facing society, including COVID-19, climate change, education, science policy, and diversity, equity and inclusion. The National Academies give government leaders and the nation the highest quality advice on a growing range of pressing scientific, engineering and health care issues. Over 1,000 professionals help lead the work of over 5,000 volunteers to coalesce the best thinking of the American scientific community.<br /><br />Under supervision of the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer (CDIO), leads the Office of Diversity and Inclusion&rsquo;s (ODI) research and data projects. Conducts research and prepares research papers and/or summaries and toolkits and resources related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) topics. Tracks and compiles relevant DEI issues, promising practices, emerging research, data, and metrics. Coordinates project activities, handling inquiries, organizing meetings and workshops, and developing materials. Supervises or assists with the supervision of support staff such as the AIDE and/or summer intern. Ensures the program or project meets its stated objectives. Assist senior staff in ODI with the development of programs and projects.
Responsibilities: <p><strong>ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:</strong></p> <ul> <li> <p>Leads assigned DEI programs and/or research and data projects. Gathers, interprets, and synthesizes research and evidence, promising practices, and data to produce reports and toolkits.</p> </li> <li> <p>Conducts quantitative and qualitative research. Conducts literature reviews. Synthesizes and edits research findings and technical data. Determines relevance of data and prepares background papers and toolkits. Manages reference checking.</p> </li> <li> <p>Stays abreast of key issues, scholars, and research focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and antiracism.</p> </li> <li> <p>Organizes meetings. Develops agendas, assists with identifying presenters and participants, and prepares written summaries.</p> </li> <li> <p>Develops written materials and coordinates/oversees dissemination and/or publication of materials. May edit reports, facilitate response to review, and participate in dissemination activities, including identification and engaging of external organizations, preparing dissemination materials, and conducting dissemination meetings.</p> </li> <li> <p>Specific projects include, for example, leading the development of the DEI Toolkit series: identifying, reviewing, summarizing, best and or emerging practices/approaches based on the literature as well as based on existing Academies&rsquo; report where relevant; producing data reports on diversity in STEMM including data on National Academies staff, members and volunteers; developing content for the DEI newsletter; conducting listening sessions and analyzing data and producing reports; assisting with identifying and monitoring DEI metrics and dashboard development and with DEI benchmarking index and submitting index applications for national recognitions; conducting qualitative and quantitative research and presenting results internally and at national conferences; supporting the DEI Council in the implementation of the DEI strategy with regard to data transparency and DEI research; coordinating with communications staff to promote new DEI resources and enhance information sharing; assisting with DEI survey development and data analysis, assisting with the development of graphs and figures for reports and PowerPoint presentations.&nbsp;</p> </li> <li> <p>Assists with supervising and mentoring staff. Assigns tasks and provides guidance and feedback to staff. Ensures required training is accomplished and participates in performance reviews. Requirements: <p><strong>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</strong>&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li> <p>Strong knowledge and understanding of DEI issues in STEMM and the social sciences as well as DEI promising practices.</p> </li> <li> <p>Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, including data collection, analysis, and communication of findings.</p> </li> <li> <p>Strong writing skills, knowledge of inclusive language practices, and ability to draft written materials and resources developed for diverse audiences.</p> </li> <li> <p>Ability to solve varied and complex problems using originality and ingenuity.</p> </li> <li> <p>Ability to operate using appreciable latitude for independent judgment and action.</p> </li> <li> <p>Ability to work successfully in a team environment that is highly collaborative.</p> </li> <li> <p>Ability to develop relationships with co-workers and employees in other National Academies&rsquo; departments through effective communication and collaborations.</p> </li> <li> <p>Excellent writing, data collection and analysis, and presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees, members, and volunteers.</p> </li> <li> <p>Discretion and judgment when handling sensitive and/or confidential data/information, and skilled at understanding how and what to communicate in delicate crisis or reputational situations.</p> </li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Minimum Education/Training Requirements:</strong>&nbsp;Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in the social sciences or STEMM related field or equivalent knowledge.</p> <p><strong>Minimum Experience:</strong>&nbsp;Three years of related professional experience.</p> <p><strong>Preferred Education and Experience:&nbsp;</strong>Advanced degree in a related field.</p> <p><strong>Required Licenses, Certification or Registration:</strong>&nbsp;None.</p> <p><strong>Software/Skills:</strong> Experience with data analysis software such as SPSS and qualitative data analysis techniques.</p> <p><strong>Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls:</strong>&nbsp;Reports to the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer. Sets objectives with supervisor and receives input and advice as needed. Assists in the supervision of project/program staff.</p>
