Serves as a key team member in the design and implementation of and internal and external communications and media projects, programs, events, outreach and dissemination activities, and media relations to expand NAE presence and increase engineering awareness nationally and among targeted audiences. Creates and coordinates implementation of communication, media, and outreach efforts using various mediums such as print, electronic, video, and web-based products. Adheres to the NAE Strategic Communications Plan to ensure efforts align with goals, strategies and direction of NAE and its communications efforts.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Write presentations, speeches, key messages and remarks for executive leadership on topics related to all fields of engineering and issues relating to engineering. Ensure messaging is accurate, and voice and rhythm reflects the style of the individual speaker/presenter.</li> <li>Researches and drafts talking points, fact sheets, PowerPoints, and other briefing materials for presentations by leaders and members attending engineering conferences, academic symposia, public policy meetings and other professional gatherings. Conduct research using internal and external sources, including gathering, developing, and checking accuracy of information with thorough research and interviews with subject-matter specialists and program officials.</li> <li>Repurpose presentations/speeches for use as op-eds, feature articles, online stories/postings, fact sheets, etc. for placement across print and digital media channels. Identify meaningful ways to cross-promote information to specialized and targeted audiences.</li> <li>Creates, writes, and edits a variety of media pieces for online and print publication including articles, columns, information pieces, news releases, press briefings, publication announcements, and media advisories relating to complex engineering and scientific topics. Comfortable interviewing experts in the field to write interview-based feature articles, or obtain background information on complex topics.</li> <li>Responsible for writing weekly updates to web-based President&rsquo;s Corner.</li> <li>Composes and/or edits report/meeting summaries, briefs and other special dissemination products.Working under the guidance of the Director of Outreach and Communications, organizes and coordinates news conferences, public briefings, webcasts and podcasts, both in-person events and on the Web. Promotes and publicizes events, public meetings, and other programs and activities.</li> <li>Collaborates across divisions to explore and develop new ways to communicate activities and to disseminate reports and information and to expand the audience for these products. Keeps abreast of engineering and science policy and relevant engineering news stories.</li> <li>Works with staff and committees in developing distribution and implementation strategies and to identify appropriate vehicles for reaching target audiences.</li> <li>Assesses probable media interest in studies, meetings of a highly complex nature, and/or publications. Disseminates reports and information to media.</li> <li>Creates and maintains online content, including web sites and social media channels. Provides technical and strategic guidance in the use of online technologies and developing technologies.</li> <li>Collaborates with appropriate units and staff to maintain and expand effective internal communications.</li> <li>Develops and maintains list of stakeholder and interested public contacts (e.g., nongovernmental organizations), worldwide media contacts, outside experts and service providers. Maintains an ongoing dialogue with outside audiences.</li> <li>Assists in production of online products and services for members, journalists, and the general public, such as electronic newsletters, media kits, resource toolbox, and other web-based and email outreach tools.</li> <li>May identify donors for core dissemination efforts and help write proposal text for contracts and budgets. Requirements: <p><strong>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</strong>&nbsp;Outstanding writing skills is a must. Professional experience as a speech writer and engineering/science communicator is preferred. Expertise in PowerPoint, Adobe or other design programs is essential. Problem solver. Team Player. Operates independently. Experience working in complex environments with a high degree of organizational effectiveness.<br /><strong>Minimum Education/Training Requirements:</strong>&nbsp;Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Creative Writing, or related field, or equivalent experience.<br /><strong>Minimum Experience:&nbsp;</strong>One year of related professional experience.<br /><strong>Physical Capabilities:&nbsp;</strong>Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.<br /><strong>Required Licenses, Certification or Registration:&nbsp;</strong>None.<br /><strong>Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls:&nbsp;</strong>Reports to NAE Director of Outreach and Communications.
