Overview: Req. No.: R0001454

About the National Academy of Medicine (NAM)

The National Academy of Medicine (NAM), established in 1970 under the name Institute of Medicine (IOM), is an independent organization of eminent professionals from diverse fields including health and medicine; the natural, social, and behavioral sciences; and beyond. The NAM serves alongside the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering as adviser to the nation and the international community. The NAM’s mission is to improve health for all by advancing science, accelerating health equity, and providing independent, authoritative, and trusted advice nationally and globally.

About the Program

The Opioid/ Substance Use Disorder Action Collaborative is a public-private partnership model that serves to catalyze public, private, and non-profit stakeholders to develop, curate, and implement multi-sector solutions designed to reduce opioid misuse, and improve outcomes for individuals, families, and communities affected by the opioid crisis. This initiative brings together diverse stakeholders from across the health care ecosystem to advance the following priority areas: health professional education and training, pain management guidelines and evidence standards, prevention, treatment, and recovery services, and research, data, and metrics. Each of these priority areas is the focus of a working group, each of which has a number of activities and deliverables that collectively support the mission of the overarching Action Collaborative. Overall, this is a dynamic and complex program that aims to catalyze action needed to address the evolving addiction and overdose crisis.

The Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience (CWB) comprises more than 100 members who are health care professionals and experts from academia, government, and industry, all committed to reversing trends in clinician burnout. Prior to and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, CWB sustained its commitment to seeking solutions that support workforce health and well-being. In October 2022, CWB released the National Plan for Health Workforce Well-Being with a vision that people are cared for by a health workforce that is thriving in an environment that fosters their well-being as they improve population health, enhance the care experience, reduce costs, and advance health equity. Starting in 2023, CWB is launching a campaign that will engage a number of health systems and key actor groups in a pilot activity and track commitments in this movement for health worker well-being. The NAM will provide technical assistance for implementing the National Plan and build widespread commitment to institutionalize well-being as a long-term value across the US.

About the Position

The NAM is seeking a highly-motivated and skilled Senior Program Assistant (SPA) to support the administrative needs of the programs and projects that improve health for all by advancing science and accelerating health equity.
