Overview: Req No.&nbsp;R0002013<br /><br />The NAM seeks a strategic, creative, and highly motivated Deputy Director with experience managing both projects and teams. The Deputy Director should have familiarity with nonprofit communications approaches; developing strategic communications plans; identifying and building relationships with diverse audiences; and best practices for web, email, and social media communications. The Deputy Director must have management, supervisory, and mentoring skills, as well as strong editorial and writing skills. S/he will be responsible for managing the general operations of the Office of Communications and implementing processes to support team function and drive innovation. The Deputy Director will directly manage the digital, content, and publications specialists and serve as a senior mentor to program communications strategists. In this respect, a key role of the Deputy Director is to grow and advance skills, capabilities, and creativity across the team. The position will report to and work closely with the Director of Communications to ensure the alignment of all communications activities with both program- and organization-level strategic goals and position the team for success in a rapidly changing information environment. <br /><br />The successful candidate will have a passion for the NAM&rsquo;s mission and a commitment to advancing health equity; is a proactive, forward-looking leader and thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions; exercises good judgment in a variety of complex situations, with strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills; effectively balances multiple, often competing, priorities and assignments; and enjoys working in a dynamic environment that is results- and mission-driven. Experience working with senior organizational leaders and familiarity with IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, and anti-racism) principles and activities are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities: <p><strong>Operational Oversight &amp; Improvement:</strong> Oversees the core platforms and functions of the Office of Communications, including its website, social media, email marketing, publications, technology subscriptions, and contractors and invoicing. Develops and implements processes to support efficiency and cohesion across the communications team. Helps to assign priorities, balance workload, and enhance workflow. Develops, maintains, and enforces communications and publications standards, processes, style guides, templates, and other tools. Develops strategies to inform, train, and increase uptake of these resources across NAM staff.<strong><br /><br />Strategic Alignment &amp; Innovation: </strong>Develops and implements processes to ensure the alignment of all communications activities with organization- and program-level strategic goals. Serves as a senior mentor to program communications strategists, supporting the development of proactive, innovative, and impactful strategies and effective collaboration with colleagues across the organization. Acts as a thought partner to the Director of Communications in developing strategic and operational directions for the team.</p> <p><strong>Team Management and Development:</strong> Directly supervises the Editorial Projects Coordinator, Senior Communications Associate, and Content Specialist. Responsible for advancing skills, capabilities, and creativity across the team. Initiates personnel actions, including performance and compensation reviews and disciplinary actions.</p> <p><strong>Special Projects:</strong> Completes a variety of communications projects (e.g., communications plans, writing, event planning, project management) as needed and as time allows.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

An estimated compensation range for this position is $85,040 - $116,930. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidate&rsquo;s relevant knowledge, skills, and work experience, commensurate with compensation of current employees in comparable positions with similar knowledge, skills, and work experience, and subject to budget parameters. Note it is not typical for a candidate to be hired at the higher end of the range.&nbsp;</p>
