Directs general and property accounting, cost accounting, and budgetary control. Appraises operating results in terms of costs, budgets, operating policies, and trends. Directs the analysis of the organization’s cash flow.<br /><br />Plans and directs the organization’s overall accounting function, with responsibility for establishing budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocation. Ensures function successfully integrates work output or services with other internal departments. Has authority to formulate, affect, interpret, or implement management policies or operating practices. Decisions have long-term implications and affect continuing operations. As subject matter expert, interfaces with leaders on high-level functional issues, providing recommendations and solutions with full understanding of cross-organizational impact and needs. Ensures function successfully integrates work output or services with other departments. Direct subordinates are managers and/or, high level professional staff.<br /><br />
Responsibilities: <ul> <li> <p>Directs the accounting department in the preparation of all external financial reports following generally accepted accounting principles.</p> </li> <li> <p>Establishes internal controls and audit procedures to ensure that accurate financial information is provided to management and other internal users of accounting data.&nbsp;</p> </li> <li> <p>Ensures that tax returns and external financial reports are prepared and filed in a timely manner.</p> </li> <li> <p>Closes the books in preparation for annual financial statement audit.</p> </li> <li> <p>Has primary responsibility for development and day-to-day maintenance of the accounting system. Analyzes and interprets statistical and accounting information in order to appraise results and report variances.</p> </li> <li> <p>Directly supervises and coordinates activities of employees in the accounting department. Provides leadership and mentors employees. Trains and develops employees to successfully perform current responsibilities and encourages development of staff for future roles. Forms effective teams and cultivates a work environment that fosters teamwork. Interprets and ensures consistent application of organizational policies. Initiates personnel actions, including performance and compensation reviews and disciplinary actions.</p> </li> <li> <p>Establishes and maintains accounting policies and controls. Ensures that accounting principles and policies are consistently practiced.</p> </li> <li> <p>Consults with Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on policy or action. Recommends improvements to policy or practices and implements approved recommendations. Serves on various multi-disciplinary teams convened for special projects.</p> </li> <li> <p>Works with external audit firm, internal auditors, and government auditors to provide accurate and timely information to support audits.</p> </li> <li> <p>Develops and sustains ongoing working relationships and collaborates effectively with colleagues across the organization and with constituents outside of the organization (e.g., volunteers and sponsors) to share ideas and expertise in areas requiring interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches. Recommends and develops ways to further strengthen collaboration at the Academies. Fosters an environment that emphasizes and values sharing of knowledge across program and administrative organizational groups as well as broad participation in building consensus.</p> </li> <li> <p>Maintains an appropriate standard of confidentiality. When handling secure, privileged, sensitive, or confidential information and matters, maintains strict confidence and exercises care to prevent disclosure to others. Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees.</p> <p><strong>Minimum Education/Training Requirements:</strong>&nbsp;Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent knowledge.</p> <p><strong>Minimum Experience:&nbsp;</strong>Ten years of related professional experience, five of which were in a supervisory capacity.<br /><br /></p> <p><strong>Physical Capabilities:</strong>&nbsp;Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.</p> <p><strong>Required Licenses, Certification or Registration:&nbsp;</strong>CPA preferred.</p> <p><strong>Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls:&nbsp;</strong>Reports to Chief Financial Officer. Independently establishes goals and objectives. An estimated compensation range for this position is $1<span class="modified">70</span>,000 - $<span class="modified">222,040.&nbsp;</span>Compensation offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidate&rsquo;s relevant knowledge, skills, and work experience, commensurate with compensation of current employees in comparable positions with similar knowledge, skills, and work experience, and subject to budget parameters.
