Overview: Requisition Number: R0002289<br /> <br /> Via our youth outreach programs, the NAE aims to bring national attention to the exciting opportunities that engineering represents for all youth, particularly those who have been historically excluded from the profession. The intern will work under supervision of program staff to create and post content for the EngineerGirl website and develop new content for a larger planned web platform targeted at middle school youth. Specific content may include but is not limited to articles on how engineers influence society, fun facts, and profiles of significant engineers. The intern may be included in program meetings and be asked to review materials for the website or provide feedback on new resources. The intern may participate in research to gather data on engineering professions and materials relevant to a middle school audience and will assist with editing and proofreading the websites and program materials. <br /><br />The intern may work off-site and coordinate with the program manager via email, web-conference, and phone conversations.<br /><br />
Responsibilities: Responds to inquiries and follows up with email communications. Coordinates with program staff to add content and features to youth outreach websites. Creates new site content or articles as needed and helps organize content to make it accessible. Proofreads and copyedits documents. Attends meetings, classes, or workshops as needed. <br /><br />Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements: <p><strong>Minimum Education: </strong>High school diploma, GED, or equivalent knowledge and current enrollment in a college or university engineering program. A basic understanding of the engineering profession as well as familiarity with the interests of middle school girls. Ability to write well at a 3rd or 4th grade reading level.</p> <p><strong>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: </strong>Good communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and individuals with diverse backgrounds. Should be self-directed and able manage time well, prioritize tasks, and accomplish assignments in a timely manner with supervisory consultation. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to be flexible and change directions as the job dictates. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Basic web design experience and understanding of how web content is presented visually would be helpful.</p> <p><strong>Work Environment:&nbsp;</strong>Telecommute environment, up to 100% remote from a pre-approved location, with occasional travel between National Academies&rsquo; facilities and to off-site meeting/sponsor locations.</p> <p><strong>Compensation: </strong>The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine support equity, fairness, and transparency in our compensation programs.
