Overview: <strong>Requisition Number: R0002368</strong><br /> <br /> ** Cover Letter Required ** <br /> <br />In 2013, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine established the Gulf Research Program (GRP) to enhance oil system safety and the protection of human health and the environment in the Gulf of Mexico and other U.S. outer continental shelf areas. The GRP seeks to improve understanding of the region&rsquo;s interconnecting human, environmental, and energy systems and fostering application of these insights to benefit Gulf communities, ecosystems, and the Nation. <br /><br />The Program Officer is responsible for developing and managing one or more of the organization's programs or projects within the Gulf Health and Resilience Board&rsquo;s (GHRB) portfolio that align with the Gulf Research Program&rsquo;s (GRP) Strategic Framework. The Program Officer applies in-depth professional level knowledge to address a range of complex challenges associated with the compounding effects of climate change, disasters, health disparities, and environmental quality on community resilience. The job&rsquo;s primary focus may include leading studies or convening activities or managing programs. The work is primarily intellectual or analytical in character, requiring advanced knowledge. Assignments are broadly defined and require judgment and creativity to complete.<br /><br /><strong>Job Description:</strong><br />The Program Officer will work in a team environment to design and implement the work under the purview of the GRP&rsquo;s Gulf Health and Resilience Board (GHRB). This work includes working with the Board members and staff team members to design programmatic activities, long-term plans, and projects and programs that deliver impact in Gulf communities. The incumbent will design, manage, and execute a variety of activities including Gulf regional workshops, studies, evaluations, or other activities that contribute to building a lasting, positive impact on the health and resilience of the people of the Gulf of Mexico region.&nbsp;&nbsp; <div> <div> <p>The Program Officer is expected to carry out the roles and responsibilities of the job with minimal oversight by the Director or Senior Program Officer.&nbsp;</p> </div> </div>

Requirements: <div> <p><strong>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: </strong>Advanced knowledge of public health and community resilience within the context of climate change, disasters, and/or environmental health. Knowledge of major public health, climate, and disaster resilience challenges and priorities in Gulf coast communities is strongly preferred. Experience developing and implementing projects that require IRB approval. Experience in social science research methods; designing, implementing, and managing public health-related projects; and collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data. Experience with community engagement methods and meeting facilitation is preferred. Strong program/project management skills. Ability to understand and communicate technical/scientific issues with diverse audiences. Ability to solve intellectual problems that are varied and complex using originality and ingenuity. Ability to operate using appreciable latitude for independent judgment and action. Ability to manage and develop projects. Ability to work successfully in a team environment and to form and maintain effective teams. Experience working in complex environments with a high degree of organizational effectiveness. Ability to develop relationships with co-workers, employees in other National Academies' departments, and external constituents through effective communication. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidate&rsquo;s relevant knowledge, skills, and work experience, commensurate with compensation of current employees in comparable positions with similar knowledge, skills, and work experience, and subject to budget parameters.
