Overview:
One Moon Doula Services was created by Kathryn Keener in 2013. After providing private, postpartum doula services for three years in two different cities, Kathryn saw a significant need for an agency model to better serve her clients. This was stemmed from repeatedly hearing from families that finding the right doula was sometimes a frustrating process. On the doula side, Kathryn realized that their main goal and passion was to serve families, not necessarily run a business. She wanted to assist in matching the right doulas with the right families in an effort to help families find ample support, by providing them with choice, availability, reliable back-up options when needed, and a streamlined process for arranging for care.

One Moon Doula seeks to affirm for families that the weeks and months following the birth of a child are a fragile and fleeting time when needs are high and support is essential.

We seek to partner with families to ensure a satisfying and successful transition after welcoming a new addition to their family.

What we believe in...

Transparency We communicate realistic expectations with our clients and each other.

Authenticity We are comfortable in our own skin while mindful and respectful of the family's needs.

Empowerment We empower our clients to help them make informed decisions.

Compassion We always show compassion and empathy, especially in stressful and emotionally charged situations.

Responsibilities:
What you will do as the Postpartum Doula

Doulas who work for our agency provide postpartum doula support to families with newborns. This involves helping the entire family transition to life with a newborn.

It can include the following:

Newborn care

Some sibling care

Light housekeeping and organization

Running errands and meal prep

Informational and emotional support for the parents

Tender loving care for the healing and/or adapting mother

Tuning in to the needs of the family and responding to their particular situation with nonjudgmental support.

The nature of postpartum doula work is unpredictable. While you may have the opportunity to set your own boundaries (number of hours per week, for example, or days vs. overnights) other things are not within your control. You may have one client that is requiring 20 hours a week, but you don’t know whether it will start this week or four weeks from now because there’s no way to know when the baby will arrive. Being a doula with an agency like One Moon Doula can help mitigate this unpredictability because of the team approach and access to backup support, but the doula should still be reasonably flexible and adaptable to the needs of the client. Depending on your availability and on the demand, this opportunity could either result in part-time or full-time hours.
Requirements:
You are the ideal candidate if the following describes you...

Effective Communicator You have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You are comfortable with creating and maintaining strong professional relationships with your clients, colleagues, and supervisor.

Dynamic You understand that each day can be different and are flexible and accepting of the constant change in the tasks that will need to get done.

Nurturing You have the ability to empathize with and understand the emotions behind the way the client behaves.

Aware You have an understanding of what goes in to running an agency and value the role of the CEO and staff in a way that culminates a strong working relationship.

Confident You are confident in your knowledge of newborn care. We know that it can be isolating to work on your own as a doula. With our agency, you have support, reliable back-up, resources, camaraderie, and accountability. As a team, we compare notes about our challenges and successes, and new ways to deal with common circumstances that arise during our work. We will even give you the opportunity to shadow or be mentored by another teammate. Instead of having to go and look for work opportunities, we will bring them to you. The doulas on our team benefit from the trust and reputation the agency has earned from referral sources such as past clients, providers, and colleagues.

Hourly pay of $21-$25 DOE at approximately 20-40 hours a week (more for twins)

Referral fees are given

Access to continuing education

Certain flexibility in choosing your schedule ex: dayshift or nightshift or chose your shifts/week (minimum 20 hours)

Administrative workload is reduced as the agency handles contracting, billing, much of the scheduling, and other administrative matters such as evaluations, reviews, and follow up with clients

Being a part of an organization that is a pioneer in postnatal care

One Moon Doula Services provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.

This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, compensation, and training.
