Overview: <h2><strong>The opportunity</strong></h2> <p dir="LTR">As we undertake an exciting new project, EPIC - the transformation of our service and delivery model, we are adding an Engineer, Database to be part of an organization-wide investment in new and optimized technology. EPIC, is a digital transformation project. It is an evolutionary time here as we bring all ownership of IT infrastructure and expertise in-house.</p> <p dir="DEFAULT">As the first Engineer, Database, this is an opportunity to play a critical role introducing and supporting PaaS and SaaS technology with a focus on enterprise databases; delivering a variety of enterprise systems; and, managing essential systems information and improvements for our business functions.</p> <p dir="DEFAULT">It&rsquo;s a chance to help build out the culture of the team and the operational users, establishing relationships of trust and support throughout the organization as you introduce and implement best practices. This is an opportunity to get in at the ground level, build relationships, make impactful changes and grow your career, moving up or laterally into other departments.</p> <p dir="DEFAULT"><strong>Who you'll work with</strong></p> <p dir="LTR">You will report to the Senior Manager Database, SaaS &amp; PaaS, and work closely with the Infrastructure and Application teams across the organization as well as well as both on and offshore teams. You will collaborate across the organization with multiple teams dedicated to introducing a strengthened technology foundation across the organization. This is a nimble team, continuously learning through experimentation, research, and professional development opportunities.</p>
Responsibilities: <h2><strong>What you'll do</strong></h2> <ul> <li><strong><u>Build and Operationalize New Systems. </u></strong>You will: <ul> <li>Own and manage the end-to-end build <span class="WL21">of&nbsp;database&nbsp;systems,</span> including certificates and licenses.</li> <li>Implement, test and remediate non-functional requirements (HA, backup, Alerting, DR, Controls).</li> <li>Support the development of standard build instructions, &ldquo;As Built&rdquo; documentation and operational documentation.</li> <li>Transition build knowledge to operational teams, including ensuring systems meet OTPP operational standards.</li> </ul> </li> <li><strong><u>Configure and Enhances Existing Systems. </u></strong>You will: <ul> <li>Implement, maintain and support the configuration of Teachers database technologies.</li> <li>Provide insights to capacity plans and forecasts.</li> <li>Contribute to the automation of database activities.</li> </ul> </li> <li><strong><u>Track and manage technology assets. </u></strong>You will: <ul> <li>Develop APIs to simplify service consumption by end-users and engineers.</li> <li>Optimize and support existing&nbsp; SaaS and PaaS technologies and data centre based solutions.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Minimize system integration complexity while maintaining system reliability and business continuity objectives.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <h2><strong>What you'll need</strong></h2> <ul> <li>The education. You have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Business Studies. TOGAF certification and ITIL Foundations (or equivalent ITSM) certification is preferred.</li> <li>The technical skills. You have hands-on experience with: <ul> <li>Database technologies including Oracle DB, Delphix, MySQL, SQL and OEM.</li> <li>Modern user authentication mechanism.</li> <li>Database platform management and solutions including high availability, disaster recovery, monitoring/alerting, backup and recovery, database performance tuning.</li> </ul> </li> <li>The experience. You have 3-5 years related experience including: <ul> <li>Deploying, administering and managing SaaS and PaaS Technology including automation &ndash; infrastructure as code.</li> <li>Designing Enterprise Infrastructure Services running various databases and applications.</li> </ul> </li> <li>The knowledge. You have a broad and deep understanding of working with global information technology service models and common IT organizational functions, inter-relations, and dependencies.</li> <li>The technical skills. You have hands-on experience with: <ul> <li>Database technologies including MySQL and&nbsp;MS SQL, experience with Oracle DB is a plus.</li> <li>Modern user authentication mechanism.</li> <li>Alerts thresholds and notification.</li> <li>Platform management and solutions including High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Monitoring, Restoring.</li> </ul> </li> <li>The drive. You are self-motivated and take ownership of your work and that of your team. You are detail-oriented, organized and analytical. You can innovate solutions to complex problems.</li> <li>The <span class="WL21">relationship-building</span> experience. You are comfortable working with individuals at any level.
