Overview: QuakeWrap&rsquo;s is an engineering and manufacturing company for solutions to build or repair the aging infrastructure using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials. We have numerous patented technologies to repair and strengthen reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures including buildings, bridges, piers, piles, retaining walls, pipes, penstocks, culverts and tunnels. A major part of the company&rsquo;s Research &amp; Development efforts are on developing creative solutions for pipe construction or repair as seen on our website (www.PipeMedic.com). We continue to receive multiple grants from various government agencies to develop state-of-the-art technologies in these areas. This position is for an individual to lead these developments under the guidance of senior engineers. By following project specifications, and using their own creativity, the R&amp;D Lab Manager/Fabricator&rsquo;s primary responsibility is to fabricate, prepare and test samples for R&amp;D purposes regarding QuakeWrap&reg; products. As such, the candidate must have a good broad knowledge of production and testing machines, tools, fabrication, and manufacturing processes that are used in similar industries. Creative and out-of-the-box thinkers are particularly invited to apply for this position. This position also has managerial responsibilities including supervision of a Lab Technician and conducting day to day activities of the R&amp;D lab. The R&amp;D Lab Manager/Fabricator will also be responsible for keeping the research lab in an organized and safe manner. This position reports to the Pipeline Division Manager.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Ensure working environment is clean and safe</li> <li>Assist with the development of new or modification of existing testing devices to meet the project requirements for testing of various pipes</li> <li>Construct samples of pipes with FRP materials for testing; we will provide training on how to make these pipes</li> <li>Test experimental models under simulated operating conditions for purposes such as development, standardization, or feasibility of design</li> <li>Install experimental parts or assemblies, such as hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, lubricants, or batteries into machines or mechanisms</li> <li>Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications</li> <li>Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform machining operations</li> <li>Assemble electromechanical or hydraulic systems</li> <li>Operate grinding, cutting and other hand tools</li> <li>Maintain the lab and production facility</li> <li>Assist with experimental design</li> <li>Assist with writing test reports</li> <li>Collaborate with the Safety &amp; Training Administrator to provide safe environment in the R&amp;D Lab</li> <li>Check stock to ensure inventory is replenished</li> <li>Complete quality control forms</li> <li>Place orders for supplies</li> <li>Participate in product development</li> <li>Build prototypes and test products</li> <li>Study and interpret assembly instructions</li> <li>Follow directions from supervisors and engineers</li> <li>Verify specifications</li> <li>Troubleshoot malfunctions and perform repairs as needed</li> <li>Supervise and train R&amp;D Lab Technician</li> </ul>
Requirements: <strong>Required Education and Experience</strong><br /> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or Equivalent; Associate Degree is preferred</li> <li>Minimum of 5 years&rsquo; experience in a related field, e.g. fabrication, machining, tool making, etc.</li> <li>Experience with fiber reinforced polymers (preferred)</li> </ul> <br /><strong>Competencies</strong><br />▪ MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook<br />▪ Lab or manufacturing safety training<br />▪ Excellent communication skills<br />▪ Strong organizational skills and ability to pay attention to details<br />▪ Familiarity with mechanical tools and equipment<br />▪ Competence in SolidWorks or similar CAD software (preferred)<br /><br /><strong>Supervisory Responsibility</strong><br />This position requires supervisory responsibilities and oversee progress and performance of the R&amp;D Lab Technician.<br /><br /><strong>Work Environment</strong><br />This job mainly operates in a research and development laboratory. This role routinely uses power tools and machining equipment, as well as frequent exposure to FRP materials and other&nbsp;chemicals. The performance of this position will require exposure to areas where the use of&nbsp;personal protective equipment is mandatory. This job also operates in a professional office<br />environment where this role might require the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.<br /><br /><strong>Physical Demands</strong><br />The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to lift up to 40lbs. The<br />employee is frequently required to stand, walk, kneel, bend, use hands to finger, handle or feel;and reach with hands and arms, extended periods of sitting and concentration, finger and wristdexterity required.<br /><br /><strong>Position Type/Expected Hours of Work</strong><br />This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.<br /><br /><strong>Travel</strong><br />Occasional travel (less than 5%) for training and field assignments may be required for this position.
