Overview: <br /> <p>As SHRM&rsquo;s strategic communication department, Corporate Communications provides high-level counsel and sound effective communication practices that further SHRM&rsquo;s mission and its ability to achieve the goals outlined in its strategic operating plan. Corporate Communications serves as a business partner and advisor to successfully communicate messages that engage and inform employees, members, and other key stakeholders.<br /><br /></p> <h4>The Speechwriter for CEO Communications develops and implements executive and corporate communication strategies to advance SHRM's mission and strategic goals. The position supports SHRM&rsquo;s President and CEO. The position reports to the Vice President of Communications.<br /><br /></h4> <p><strong>Work Environment:<br /><br /></strong></p> <p>Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. Occasional travel may be required.</p>
Responsibilities: <br /> <ul type="disc"> <li>Create, drive, and manage communications strategies for SHRM&rsquo;s President and CEO that advance SHRM thought leadership and ensure timely, consistent messaging across multiple communication channels.</li> <li>Develop a wide range of content in support of SHRM&rsquo;s President and CEO including speechwriting and presentations, talking points, briefing memos, editorial columns, blog posts, and other deliverables as needed. This role may also provide writing support for other executives and SHRM projects when necessary.</li> <li>Create decks to turn written word/stories into visual communication.</li> <li>Continuously monitor SHRM business performance, national media, industry news and research, and other sources for trends, statistics, and ideas to develop a thought-leading point of view for the President and CEO.</li> <li>Work closely with colleagues across the organization (e.g., Media Affairs, Marketing, Research, Editorial, Events, etc.) as well as contractors to develop and execute executive and corporate communications, and provide editorial guidance as needed.</li> <li>Participate in all necessary meetings, status, brainstorming, and presentations to drive delivery of messaging.</li> <li>Establish relationships with and maintain the trust and confidence of SHRM senior executives, Staff SHRM executives and events as needed.</li> <li>Track and evaluate outcomes of CEO communications for continuous improvement.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <br /> <h4><strong>Education &amp; Work Requirements:</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.</li> <li>Highly organized and energetic communications professional with 6-8 years of relevant experience</li> </ul> <h4><br /><strong>Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities:</strong><br /><br /></h4> <ul> <li>Outstanding writing skills with a proven ability to write for different channels (email, Slack, blogs) and audiences</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to simplify messaging and craft compelling narratives</li> <li>Proven track record in executive communication.</li> <li>High degree of professionalism and ability to interface with senior executives.</li> <li>Flexible, adaptable, and collaborative personality.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Physical Requirements:<br /><br /></strong></p> <ul> <li>Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.</li> <li>Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing.
