Overview: <p>Under the general direction of the Managing Editor, the Executive Network Editor will oversee all aspects of the creation, production and delivery of a weekly e-newsletter targeted to CEOs and a senior executive audience. In addition, this position&rsquo;s responsibilities will include various editorial tasks to assist the Managing Editor in the creation of content for SHRM Executive Network members, including the quarterly&nbsp;<em>People + Strategy</em>&nbsp;journal, the&nbsp;<em>EN:Brief</em>&nbsp;e-newsletter and the Executive Network website, as well as writing and editing for additional SHRM outlets as needed.</p> <p>SHRM offers a hybrid work schedule&mdash;three days per week in our Alexandria, VA office and two days working remotely.<br /><br /></p> <p><strong>Work Environment:<br /><br /></strong>Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. Travel Required: Occasional 0-10%.</p>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Lead the entire production of a weekly, content-rich e-newsletter targeted to CEOs and the C-suite. This includes researching and identifying curated content from outside sources, leveraging content from SHRM sources and from other partner sources, and writing original content.</li> <li>Use online tools&mdash;including Adobe Experience Manager, Marketo and others&mdash;to post content online and to create/send a weekly e-newsletter that meets the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, engagement and adherence to SHRM style guidelines.</li> <li>Manage workflow processes and editorial calendar. Coordinate with the copy desk, designers and production team to meet all deadlines and budgets. Use iStock and other image sources, and work with creative and digital product teams, to develop effective visuals and graphics.</li> <li>Assist the Managing Editor in the creation and production of each quarterly print edition of&nbsp;<em>People + Strategy</em>, the premier journal for CHROs and HR executives. This includes brainstorming content ideas, collaborating with outside contributors, editing content, posting articles on SHRM&rsquo;s EN website and producing the digital edition of the journal.</li> <li>Assist the Managing Editor in the creation and production of the&nbsp;<em>EN:Brief</em>&nbsp;newsletter, which includes identifying appropriate content/sources, posting articles on the EN website and creating research charts/summaries.</li> <li>Write occasional content for various EN publications as time allows, including the Member Profile department for the journal.</li> <li>Stay abreast of trends, news and topics relevant to the CEO and C-suite audiences.</li> <li>Collaborate across SHRM departments and business units to support SHRM strategic initiatives and business objectives.</li> <li>Occasional travel as needed to cover SHRM conferences and other HR- or executive-related conferences and to report articles.</li> <li>Other duties may be assigned.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in journalism or related field.</li> <li>4 years of writing and editing experience, preferably for business-to-business publications.</li> <li>Digital production experience, proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and experience with content management systems.</li> <li>Experience working with a wide range of multimedia and social media elements.</li> <li>Experience creating and managing schedules and managing editorial production, preferably e-newsletters.</li> <li>Preferred knowledge or experience with HR, business, government, economic and workplace issues.</li> <li>Excellent writing and editing skills.</li> <li>Excellent research, analytical and organizational skills.</li> <li>Strong creative and idea generation skills.</li> <li>Knowledge and expertise of digital publishing, CMS, SEO, multimedia and analytic tools used to measure engagement.</li> <li>Proven ability to make high-quality, substantive edits, and ability to work closely with editors and freelance writers.</li> <li>Self-starter and able to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.</li> <li>Ability to work accurately with minimal need for revision.</li> <li>Ability to consistently meet deadlines and show good judgment.</li> <li>Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to learn and adapt to the evolving needs of SHRM&rsquo;s editorial team.</li> <li>Knowledge of digital publishing tools, including Microsoft Office suite, InCopy, Adobe Experience Manager and email newsletter tools such as Marketo.</li> <li>Knowledge of AP Style.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Physical Requirements:<br /><br /></strong></p> <ul type="disc"> <li>Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.</li> <li>Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, use hands to type.
