Overview: The Senior Specialist, Tax &amp; Regulatory Compliance works closely with the Director of Regulatory Compliance to support the tax filings and analysis of the Society for Human Resource Management and its subsidiaries (collectively &ldquo;SHRM&rdquo;). In addition, this position will support the investment portfolio. The Senior Specialist, Tax &amp; Regulatory Compliance will play a key role in preparing detailed tax schedules for both SHRM&rsquo;s for-profit and nonprofit subsidiaries, and will be responsible for reconciliation of investment information and related summaries of performance.<br /><br /> <p><strong>Work Environment:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.</li> <li>Expected travel is 0-10% of the time.&nbsp;</li> </ul>
Responsibilities: <ul type="disc"> <li>Prepare supporting files for IRS Form 990 submissions for SHRM&rsquo;s 501c3 and 501c6 entities, various state sales tax submissions, business license renewals, and annual reports.</li> <li>Provide supporting files for Corporate and international tax returns.</li> <li>Assist with preparation of Charitable Solicitation Registrations.</li> <li>Coordinate tax forecasting and accruals; record monthly entries.</li> <li>Generate or customize accounting system reports related to tax submissions.</li> <li>Provide analysis of various business areas, functions, and allocable expenses.</li> <li>Prepare monthly journal entries to record investment activity.</li> <li>Prepare consolidating schedules and reconciliations of investment activity.</li> <li>Independently research various state business compliance requirements.</li> <li>Reconcile General Ledger activity related to tax positions and investment.</li> <li>Develop and maintain tax policies and procedures; identify and implement recommendations for improvements.</li> <li>Other duties and projects as assigned.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration field; or equivalent relevant experience.</li> <li>A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in Finance/Accounting or business operations related role.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience in budget creation, report generation, financial and operations analytics.</li> <li>For-profit or association experience preferred.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h4><strong>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel and Adobe Pro.</li> <li>Knowledge of GAAP.</li> <li>Familiar with IRS Form 990 and Charitable Solicitation filings.</li> <li>Highly organized and detail oriented.</li> <li>Ability to research and communicate complex financial information successfully.</li> <li>Excellent analytical aptitude with a proven ability to analyze/interpret data, including financial statements.</li> <li>Strong ability to multi-task and adhere to tight deadlines.</li> <li>Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.</li> <li>Advanced Microsoft Office software applications skills&mdash;MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.</li> <li>Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively and build consensus across teams and various levels of management.</li> <li>Commitment to high standards, customer service, integrity, and ethics.</li> <li>Self-motivated, with a sense of autonomy, initiative, and responsibility.</li> <li>Experience with financial software including NetSuite and Adaptive Planning preferred.</li> </ul> <h1>&nbsp;</h1> <p><strong>Physical Requirements:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.</li> <li>Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
