Overview: The Manager, Publications Portfolio oversees the timely execution and overall management of our content publications portfolio, including books, magazines, and other editorial products. This role is pivotal in ensuring the quality, accuracy, and relevance of SHRM's published materials, aligning with our mission to empower people and workplaces by advancing HR practices and maximizing human potential.<br /><br /> <p><strong>Other:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.</li> <li>Hybrid work schedule: Mondays and Fridays remote, and Tuesdays to Thursdays on location in Alexandria, VA.</li> </ul>
Responsibilities: <strong>Publication Management:<br /></strong><br /> <ul> <li>Oversee the entire lifecycle of SHRM's print publications, from conception to distribution.</li> <li>Ensure print publications meet the highest standards of editorial quality, accuracy, and relevance.</li> <li>Manage the production schedules and ensure timely delivery of print publications.</li> <li>Collaborate with authors, editors, and designers to produce high-quality content.</li> <li>Implement and maintain a robust content review and approval process.</li> </ul> <br /><strong><br />Content Development:<br /></strong><br /> <ul> <li>Work with subject matter experts to develop and curate content that aligns with SHRM&rsquo;s mission and strategic goals.</li> <li>Stay abreast of industry trends and ensure SHRM's content remains current and forward-thinking.</li> <li>Lead the development of new publication ideas and initiatives.</li> </ul> <br /><strong><br />Vendor and Stakeholder Relations:<br /></strong><br /> <ul> <li>Build and maintain relationships with external vendors, including co-publishers, printers, designers, authors, and freelancers.</li> <li>Negotiate contracts and manage budgets for all print publication projects.</li> <li>Manage vendors to ensure completion of statements of work, deliverables and established metrics in support of SHRM&rsquo;s commitments.</li> <li>Collaborate with internal departments, such as marketing, to promote SHRM publications.</li> </ul> <br /><strong><br />Strategic Planning:<br /></strong><br /> <ul> <li>Develop and implement strategic plans for SHRM's publication portfolio.</li> <li>Conduct market research and analysis to identify new opportunities for content development.</li> <li>Monitor and report on the performance of SHRM's publications, using data to inform future strategies.</li> </ul> <br /><strong><br />Compliance and Standards:<br /></strong><br /> <ul> <li>Ensure all publications comply with SHRM's brand and editorial standards and guidelines.</li> <li>Maintain consistency in voice, style, and branding across all SHRM publications.</li> <li>Oversee the copyright and permissions process for all published content.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field; master&rsquo;s degree preferred.</li> <li>Over 5 years of experience with responsibilities in publication management, preferably within a professional or trade association.</li> <li>Proven experience leading editorial teams and managing publication processes.</li> <li>Excellent writing, editing, and strong project management skills.</li> <li>Clear understanding and application of publishing industry standards and practices.</li> <li>Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.</li> <li>Proficiency in digital publishing tools and content management systems.</li> <li>Strong analytical skills and ability to use data to drive decisions.</li> <li>Passion for HR and commitment to SHRM&rsquo;s mission and values.</li> </ul> <br /><br /> <div class="job-posting-section"> <p><em>The hiring range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
