Overview: As a Labor Economist at SHRM, you will have the opportunity to conduct research, analyze data, and produce insights that inform policy decisions and industry strategies. This role emphasizes rigorous data analysis and creative problem solving in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.<br /><br /> <h4><strong>Work Environment:</strong></h4> <p><strong>Hybrid Position (3 Days In-Office, 2 Days Remote):</strong></p> <ul> <li>This position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office presence [three days per week] and remote work [two days per week]. Core work hours will be designated by the department. The office environment includes a standard workstation setup with collaborative spaces, while remote work requires a reliable high-speed internet connection and a suitable home workspace. Employees must maintain availability during standard business hours and adhere to company policies for both in-office and remote work.</li> <li><strong>Travel:</strong>&nbsp;0 &ndash; 10%.</li> </ul>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Conduct research on a wide range of issues in labor economics.</li> <li>Collect and analyze data from various sources, including government datasets, surveys, and academic literature.</li> <li>Prepare charts, graphs, and other visualizations to illustrate key findings and trends.</li> <li>Author research reports, whitepapers, and presentations for internal and external audiences.</li> <li>Collaboratively develop and lead projects and initiatives within the Labor Economics team, and serve as a subject matter expert on economic issues across the organization.</li> <li>Provide quick-turn analysis and economic insights to partners across the organization.</li> <li>Stay current on economic trends, policy developments, and industry news to inform research activities and discussions.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>Education:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in economics/quantitative social science required (Ph.D. preferred).</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Experience:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Post-graduate experience working in a fast-paced environment that demands a wide variety of research output, ranging from quick-turn economic analysis to full-scale research reports.</li> <li>Significant experience managing research projects preferred.</li> </ul> <br /> <h4><strong>Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities:</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets.</li> <li>Expert-level proficiency in the statistical software package Stata, as well as high proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (especially Excel). Additional experience in other statistical software packages (e.g., R, SPSS) desirable.</li> <li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.</li> <li>Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, managing multiple tasks and deadlines.</li> <li>Ability to lead research projects.</li> <li>Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environment.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h4><strong>Physical Requirements:</strong></h4> <p>This position operates in a typical office environment and requires the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
