$78,000 to $92,000 per year

Overview: The Specialist, Membership Engagement supports the implementation of membership engagement strategies and programs for the SHRM Northern California Community. Working closely with the Director and cross-functional teams, this role coordinates initiatives that strengthen member engagement, support membership growth and retention, and enhance the overall member experience.<br /><br /> The Specialist serves as a primary resource for volunteer leaders, members, and prospective members by coordinating programs, communications, sponsorship activities, and community engagement efforts. This position plays an important role in building relationships, supporting volunteer committees, coordinating events, and ensuring the successful execution of initiatives aligned with the California Community's goals and objectives.<br /><br /> <h4><strong>Work Environment</strong></h4> <p>Hybrid Schedule (3 Days In-Office/2 Days Remote)<br /><br />This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with Tuesday through Thursday in office and Monday and Friday remote. Employees must be available during standard business hours, with core hours beginning between 8:00&ndash;9:00 a.m. and concluding between 5:00&ndash;6:00 p.m. local time.</p> <h4>Travel:&nbsp;Moderate 20 &ndash; 30%</h4>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Coordinate the implementation of membership engagement initiatives, programs, and campaigns that support membership growth, engagement, and retention within the Northern California Community.</li> <li>Partner with the Director and internal departments to execute community priorities, annual plans, and strategic initiatives.</li> <li>Build and maintain positive relationships with volunteer leaders, members, prospective members, student chapters, and affiliated organizations.</li> <li>Manage volunteer committees, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, documenting meeting outcomes, communicating action items, and supporting committee chairs in implementing work plans.</li> <li>Serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries received through the SHRM website and Northern California community email regarding membership, volunteer opportunities, certification, sponsorships, and programs.</li> <li>Coordinate logistics for in-person, virtual, and hybrid meetings and events, including registration, audiovisual setup, meeting technology, materials, badge production, onsite support, and event teardown.</li> <li>Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to implement campaigns that promote programs, events, volunteer opportunities, and member benefits.</li> <li>Develop materials, resources, and orientation content to support volunteer leader onboarding, engagement, and ongoing success.</li> <li>Coordinate sponsorship activities by assisting with sponsor communications, fulfillment of sponsorship benefits, and event support.</li> <li>Represent SHRM at community meetings, conferences, and external events by promoting programs, services, and membership opportunities.</li> <li>Develop, publish, and manage content across social media platforms and online communities to increase engagement, strengthen brand awareness, and foster member interaction.</li> <li>Maintain and enhance the Northern California online member community by encouraging participation, facilitating discussions, and sharing relevant content.</li> <li>Track program participation, engagement metrics, and member feedback to support continuous improvement efforts.</li> <li>Assist with budget tracking, expense reconciliation, and administrative support for assigned programs and events.</li> <li>Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <h4><strong>Education</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Human Resources, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred, or relevant equivalent experience in lieu of degree.</li> </ul> <h4><strong>Experience</strong></h4> <ul> <li> <h4>Three (3) or more years of experience in membership services, association management, nonprofit organizations, customer engagement, marketing, or a related field.</h4> </li> <li> <h4>Experience coordinating programs, projects, meetings/events, and volunteer activities involving multiple stakeholders.</h4> </li> <li> <h4>Experience implementing engagement, marketing, or communication initiatives.</h4> </li> <li> <h4>Experience using social media platforms for organizational or business communications.</h4> </li> <li> <h4>Experience working with volunteers, boards, committees, or member-based organizations preferred.</h4> </li> </ul> <h4><strong>Certifications -&nbsp;NA</strong></h4> <h4><strong>Knowledge, Skills &amp; Abilities</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.</li> <li>Excellent relationship-building and customer service skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with members, volunteers, sponsors, and internal stakeholders.</li> <li>Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to facilitate meetings and deliver presentations to small groups.</li> <li>Ability to coordinate multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail and producing high-quality work.</li> <li>Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and recommend practical solutions.</li> <li>Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a cross-functional team environment.</li> <li>Basic financial acumen, including tracking budgets, expenses, and invoices.</li> <li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using CRM or association management systems such as Salesforce, NetSuite, or similar platforms.</li> <li>Experience utilizing social media platforms and digital engagement tools to communicate with members and build community.</li> <li>Ability to analyze participation and engagement data to identify trends and support continuous improvement.</li> <li>Ability to effectively leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and improve overall work quality.</li> </ul> <h1>&nbsp;</h1> <h4><strong>Physical Requirements</strong></h4> <p>This position operates in a typical office environment (which includes a home office setting) and requires the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
