Overview: &nbsp;The Fabrication, &amp; Welding Production Manager is responsible for the leadership and oversight of all fabrication, welding (manual and robotic), and laser tube cutting operations in a steel shop environment. This includes managing a diverse team of welders, fabricators, machine operators, and laser technicians to meet production goals, quality standards, and safety expectations. The role requires hands-on involvement in daily operations, workflow management, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives, including TRUMPF laser tube machinery.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Manage day-to-day operations of the steel fabrication and welding production floor</li> <li>Lead, supervise, and support team leads, welders, fabricators, and machine operators</li> <li>Ensure production schedules are met and customer requirements are achieved</li> <li>Monitor workflow and proactively resolve production bottlenecks or delays</li> <li>Oversee safety compliance and promote a safety-first culture</li> <li>Follow all company and OSHA safety protocols and procedures</li> <li>Comply with the EHS Policy and follow all company and OSHA safety protocols and procedures.</li> <li>Attend scheduled EHS trainings.</li> <li>Demonstrates safe work habits by adhering to general safety procedures, including correct techniques for lifting and bending, maintaining proper ergonomics, using equipment correctly, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.</li> <li>Ensures strict adherence to all safety procedures, including the enforcement of Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) procedures.</li> <li>Drive adherence to quality standards and implement corrective actions as needed</li> <li>Collaborate with engineering, planning, maintenance, and quality departments</li> <li>Evaluate performance and provide coaching, development, and discipline when needed</li> <li>Maintain accurate reporting on production metrics, downtime, labor usage, and material movement</li> <li>Ensure tools, machines, and equipment are maintained and ready for operation</li> <li>Monitor inventory of materials and supplies; coordinate with procurement to avoid shortages</li> <li>Support training and cross-training of employees to build a flexible, skilled team</li> <li>Lead 5S, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement efforts</li> <li>Conduct daily production meetings and communicate shift expectations</li> <li>Oversee safe and effective use of laser tube cutting machines (e.g., TRUMPF TruLaser Tube), ensuring equipment is properly maintained and operators are trained</li> <li>Support integration of laser tube processing into fabrication workflow, ensuring coordination with welding and assembly teams</li> <li>Identify and troubleshoot laser-specific production issues and ensure high-quality cut and weld performance</li> <li>Monitor and support part flow from laser cutting to downstream welding and assembly operations</li> <li>Implement and maintain best practices for laser technology, safety procedures, and production standards</li> <li>Perform other duties as assigned</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Minimum 5 years of experience in a steel fabrication and welding environment</li> <li>Minimum 3 years of leadership/supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting</li> <li>High school diploma or equivalent (required)</li> <li>Associate or bachelor&rsquo;s degree in manufacturing, Welding Technology, Industrial Management, or related field (preferred)</li> <li>Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered</li> <li>Strong working knowledge of welding techniques, steel fabrication processes, and shop equipment</li> <li>Manual and robotic welding experience a plus</li> <li>Understanding of powder coating or paint booth operations a plus</li> <li>Excellent organizational and time management skills</li> <li>Proficient in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and weld symbols</li> <li>Knowledge of production scheduling and shop workflow management</li> <li>Working knowledge of safety practices and OSHA standards</li> <li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills</li> <li>Ability to drive process improvements and maintain quality control</li> <li>Comfortable using ERP systems, Microsoft Office, and production tracking tools</li> <li>Hands-on approach with a &ldquo;lead by example&rdquo; management style</li> <li>Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.</li> </ul> <br />Travel Requirements:<br /> <ul> <li>Occasional travel may be required for training or vendor visits (less than 10%)</li> </ul> Physical Requirements:<br /> <ul> <li>Stand for extended periods (6&ndash;12 hours)</li> <li>Lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs.</li> <li>Work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, heat, dust, and moving equipment</li> <li>Use of PPE including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection</li> <li>Ability to talk, hear, stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as required by the task.</li> <li>Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus</li> </ul>
