Overview: The Welder/Fitter is responsible for fitting, aligning, and welding structural tube and plate assemblies according to engineered drawings and weld procedures. Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Fit and weld structural tube assemblies and components per fabrication drawings and WPS requirements.</li> <li>Perform layout, cutting, grinding, and fitting operations to prepare materials.</li> <li>Verify dimensions and alignment using measuring tools, squares, and levels.</li> <li>Perform MIG (GMAW) and/or Flux Core (FCAW) welding carbon steel materials.</li> <li>Maintain high-quality standards in weld appearance, size, and penetration.</li> <li>Work independently or as part of a fabrication team to meet production schedules.</li> <li>Inspect welds for conformance and report nonconformities to supervision.</li> <li>Follow all safety procedures, including PPE use, material handling, and safe equipment operation.</li> <li>Must always wear appropriate protective gear, including welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe&nbsp;boots.</li> <li>Operate welding machines, grinders, saws, and other fabrication tools in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and shop protocols.</li> <li>Must be able to identify potential safety risks in the work area and take proactive steps to eliminate or report them.</li> <li>Must be able to follow approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and fabrication drawings to ensure structural integrity and regulatory compliance.</li> <li>Safely lift, move, and position materials using proper techniques and mechanical assistance when needed.</li> <li>Maintain regular and reliable attendance.</li> <li>Other duties as assigned.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Safety Requirements:</strong><strong> </strong></p> <ul> <li>Comply with the company safety policies and requirements.</li> <li>Report to supervision conditions or practices that are either unsafe or that may adversely impact the environment, to ensure prompt resolution of potential hazards.</li> <li>Attend scheduled safety training.</li> <li>Actively support the organization&rsquo;s efforts to meet or exceed safety goals and plans.</li> <li>Recommend improved safety practices.</li> <li>Practices safe work habits and follows general safety procedures such as proper lifting and bending, ergonomics, proper use of equipment and use of personal protection equipment (PPE).</li> <li>Adheres to and ensures lockout procedures are followed any time the equipment is being cleaned or maintained.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent.</li> <li>Completion of welding certification program or equivalent hands-on welding experience (1&ndash;2 years preferred).</li> <li>Basic proficiency in MIG (GMAW) and/or Flux Core (FCAW) welding processes.</li> <li>AWS D1.1 or equivalent certification is a plus.</li> <li>Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.</li> <li>Familiarity with fabrication tools such as saws, grinders, torches, and layout tables.</li> <li>Strong understanding of weld joint preparation and fit-up techniques for tube steel.</li> <li>Strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement consistently.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Physical Requirements:</strong><br /> </p> <ul> <li>Ability to stand, walk, and move about the fabrication shop and production floor for extended periods (up to 10 hours per day).</li> <li>Occasionally required to sit, talk, hear, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, or climb short ladders or platforms.</li> <li>Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.</li> <li>Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate welding equipment, inspection tools, and a computer keyboard.</li> <li>Visual acuity to read small print, interpret data, inspect parts, and identify quality defects.</li> <li>Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes.</li> <li>Comfortable working in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to welding arcs, grinding, cutting, fabrication noise, heat, sparks, and occasional fumes.</li> <li>Indoor fabrication shop environment.</li> <li>Exposure to welding arcs, grinding, cutting, and fabrication noise.</li> <li>Must be able to wear all required PPE (including safety glasses, hearing protection, welding helmet, gloves, steel-toe boots, etc.).</li> </ul>
