Overview: <p><strong>The opportunity</strong></p> <p>Reporting to the CFO and working in close partnership with the HR Leader, our client is seeking a Payroll Specialist: someone who can take ownership for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for their 800 salaried and hourly-rate employees who work at different sites across the country.</p> <p>This is a unique hybrid role for someone with an accounting background and a keen interest in HR processes. It&rsquo;s an opportunity for a smart, curious, innovative and incredibly accurate individual to join a highly engaged team. It&rsquo;s a chance to bring value to a national organization by introducing processes, increasing transparency and bringing people together.</p> <p><strong>Who you are</strong></p> <p>You are an accounting professional with 2+ years of payroll and A/R experience. You have exposure to the HR side of finance from creating Records of Employment to reconciling expenses and processing benefit deductions. You have in-depth knowledge of regulatory taxation and legislative requirements including applicable taxable benefits, for multiple provinces&nbsp;including Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Whilst you are a numbers oriented person you also possess great people skills and enjoy working with team members to ensure they understand the processes around their pay and benefits. You are adaptable, deadline-driven, solutions-focused and you thrive in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities: <p><strong>As a Payroll Specialist, you will:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Process and reconcile payroll every two weeks. You will accurately and efficiently process payroll for 800 employees. You will take into account varying hourly, overtime and salaried rates as well as different provincial deduction rates. You will coordinate payroll administration, configuration and modifications. You will record payroll and compensation related entries into the PayWorks payroll/HRIS system and reconcile payroll to compensation-related General Ledger (GL) accounts in Microsoft Navision.</li> <li>Manage and administer. In accordance with the Employment Standards Act, you will manage all changes to payroll and benefits: <ul> <li>Setup of new employees.</li> <li>Employee benefits enrollment and changes.</li> <li>Employee benefits processing.</li> <li>Earnings changes.</li> <li>New or ongoing deductions.</li> <li>Closing payroll for terminated employees.</li> <li>Commission calculation and inclusion for sales employees.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Act as a point of contact. You will assist and support employees on a variety of payroll-related issues: <ul> <li>Investigate and respond to written and telephone inquiries from employees, supervisors, managers and service providers on issues affecting payroll, i.e., vacation, leave of absences, etc.</li> <li>Provide paperwork including forms and reports as requested and required, i.e., record of employment, confirmation of salary, TD-1 forms.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Coordinate the attendance management process. You will monitor sick leave and facilitate return-to-work processes; communicating with employees and supervisors.</li> <li>Support. You will provide backup support, and carry out ad-hoc tasks, special research and analysis projects to support Finance and HR.</li> <li>Adhere to all&nbsp;national and provincial legislation as well as the Occupational Health &amp; Safety Act&nbsp;rules and regulations.</li> <li>Work on ad hoc Payroll analysis and projects as needed.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>The successful new Payroll Specialist will have:</strong></p> <ul> <li>A relevant diploma or degree and at least 2 years of experience processing a large payroll in a fast-paced work environment, including year-end processing activities.</li> <li>Knowledge of Canadian payroll compliance and related legislation (CRA, ESA, WSIB, EHT, Privacy).</li> <li>Experience administering payroll using a system such as Microsoft Navision ERP.</li> <li>Experience with HRIS applications.</li> <li>Advanced proficiency with MS Office software, particularly Word and Excel.</li> <li>Experience preparing detailed analyses of payroll-related data.</li> <li>A commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.</li> <li>Strong analytical, problem solving, critical thinking and verbal and written communication skills, backed by a service orientation.</li> <li>An ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.</li> <li>A few optional extras such as Canadian Payroll Association certification.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Apply now</strong></p> <p>If you would like to learn more or apply for this role, please submit your resume and qualifications here.</p> <p>Our client is committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible environment where employees feel valued and respected, and where every employee has the opportunity to realize their potential.
