Overview: <p>Our client, a leader in their industry, is adding a Controller to their Finance organization, comprised of three financial business units (Canada, the US, and Europe). Reporting to the VP Finance, the Controller is an individual who seizes opportunities, takes the initiative, and is delighted to build as well as maintain processes, relationships, and guidelines. This is a role for someone who wants to manage relationships with Private Equity, take a hands-on approach with reporting and analysis, and oversee the milestones and monthly activities while leaving the day-to-day with someone else. Our client is seeking an insightful influencer who can inspire, find solutions and motivate resources toward goals; someone who understands this is an active individual contributor role in a dynamic environment working closely with the VP Finance.</p> <p><strong>What&rsquo;s in it for you</strong></p> <ul> <li><em>Ownership, influence, and impact.</em>&nbsp;This is a chance to autonomously make decisions, create strategies and processes, and execute those plans. Responsibilities: <p><strong>The new Controller will focus on:</strong></p> <ul> <li><em>Compliance, Internal Controls, and Tax. You will:</em> <ul> <li>Deliver policies. You will draft and implement: <ul> <li>Policies and internal controls that are consistent and support the protection of company-wide assets.</li> <li>Policies that ensure that we have an internal control and policy framework that provide appropriate governance of behavior and decision making for employees.</li> <li>New accounting policies and disseminate information on the potential impact on the business.</li> </ul> </li> </ul> </li> <li><em>Optimize our corporate financial structure.&nbsp;</em>You will supervise all aspects of compliance and tax related functions across the entire corporation, minimizing tax and ensuring tax compliance in our business terms, documents, and systems. This applies to sales tax, commodity tax, income tax for both Canada and the USA.</li> <li><em>Ensure compliance.</em>&nbsp;You will ensure that we are compliant with our transfer pricing policies and be responsible for updating documentation and rollout. You will determine tax risks and leverage tax provisions. You will ensure filings are complete and timely.</li> <li><em>Supervise the consolidations function.</em>&nbsp;Ensure we can deliver timely consolidated statements in accordance with US GAAP.</li> <li><em>Leadership. You will:</em> <ul> <li>Be a resource. You will ensure technical excellence and transactional integrity with respect to the multiple jurisdictions in which we operate.</li> <li>Support the team. You will: <ul> <li>Provide coaching and guidance set professional development plans to assist employees to reach their full potential through the Performance Management process.</li> <li>Ensure the team delivers the highest standard of departmental, cross-departmental, and customer service.</li> <li>Be a resource that leads the organization forward.</li> </ul> </li> </ul> </li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>The new Controller has:</strong></p> <ul> <li>The education and experience. You have a professional accounting designation CPA or CA combined with 10 or more years as a leader of a finance function. You have exposure working with Private Equity and M&amp;A concepts, transactions, and execution. You have deep and broad experience-based knowledge including: <ul> <li>Commodity, income tax and transfer pricing methodology.</li> <li>Accounting treatments for complex transactions in accordance with US GAAP.</li> <li>Technical tax expertise with at least a working knowledge of the US &nbsp;tax system, and a deep understanding of the Canadian tax legislation.</li> <li>OFAC and other US legislation that restricts certain business transactions.</li> <li>Internal controls, legislation such as Sarbanes Oxley.</li> <li>The technical skills. You are an Excel Superuser and have hands-on experience with an ERP system; ideally migrating from manual to automation in ERP.</li> <li>The exceptional communication. You are well spoken and can build internal and external relationships across any level of an organization. You are a persuasive negotiator, a solver of problems, and a conflict management expert.
