Responsibilities: <p><strong><u>Primary Duties and Responsibilities (details of the basic job functions):&nbsp;</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Prepares financial reports in accordance with corporate directives, statutory accounting principles, generally accepted accounting principles, and other regulatory requirements.&nbsp;</li> <li>Reconciles deposit, disbursement, product systems and other accounts.&nbsp;</li> <li>Maintains financial data and statistics on various automated systems.</li> <li>Coordinates interpretation of changes due to regulatory rulings.&nbsp;</li> <li>Conducts research in order to determine implications of new products, services and changes in operating systems.</li> </ul> <div><strong><u>OPERATIONAL</u></strong></div> <ul> <li>Reconciles complex deposit, disbursement, product systems and other accounts, using old and new technologies including automated reconciliation software and coordinates and tests system changes or upgrades.</li> <li>Formally prepares, examines and ensures timeliness of supporting schedules to senior management, Board of Directors, internal and external auditors, National Association of Insurance Commissioners and other external agencies.</li> <li>Develops and coordinates the implementation of accounts on the automated reconciliation software.&nbsp; Identifies all required files, develops sequence of inputs, timing of schedule and match rules.</li> <li>&nbsp;Maintains the automation reconciliation security profiles and system administration tables.</li> <li>&nbsp;Participates in the modification of new and existing data systems to ensure compliance with area specifications and financial integrity.</li> <li>&nbsp;Represents finance on corporate teams and initiatives to ensure compliance with financial specifications and integrity.</li> <li>&nbsp;Monitors the preparation of reports concerning account activities such as account analyses for management and the schedule for external auditors.</li> <li>&nbsp;Assists less senior staff in resolving automation reconciliation software issues and problems.</li> </ul> <div><strong><u>TECHNICAL</u></strong></div> <ul> <li>Attains and maintains the highest level of expertise as may be deemed necessary for established functional activities within the organization structure.</li> <li>Assesses the impact of reporting changes necessitated by IRS, State, and regulatory Agency rulings and implements as required.</li> <li>Determines implication of changes in corporate reporting and modifies accounting procedures to accommodate changes.</li> <li>Develops financial models using spreadsheet software.</li> <li>Develops and maintains job documentation and procedures.</li> <li>Researches and develops procedures to improve efficiency and enhance controls.</li> </ul> <div><strong><u>CUSTOMER SERVICE</u></strong></div> <ul> <li>Resolves problems affecting reconciliations with other units, areas and banks, including those related to both old and new technologies utilized by paper and paperless disbursement/receipt processes.</li> <li>Works with vendors to resolve software and application problems affecting the reconciliation software.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <div><strong><u>Preferred Qualifications:</u></strong></div> <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Accounting or Finance</li> <li>Experience working in a multi-company, multi-state environment</li> <li>Knowledge of AAA Michigan products and services</li> <li>Strong organizational, planning, analytical, time management and administrative skills</li> <li>Experience working with&nbsp;fixed asset software</li> </ul> <strong>Qualifications</strong><br /><strong><u>Required Qualifications (these are the minimum requirements to qualify)</u></strong><br /> <ul> <li>Associates degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.</li> </ul> <p>Professional experience in Accounting to include:</p> <ul> <li>Equivalent to an Accountant I of at least 2 years</li> <li>Preparation of financial reports utilizing user oriented programming languages including spreadsheet programs</li> <li>Preparing complex bank reconciliations</li> <li>Using automated accounting systems</li> </ul> Demonstrated skills in:<br /> <ul> <li>Analysis and problem solving</li> <li>Organization and planning</li> </ul> Knowledge of:<br /> <ul> <li>Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)</li> <li>Accounting and audit principles</li> <li>Federal and statutory reporting requirements</li> </ul> Ability to:<br /> <ul> <li>Communicate effectively with others in a work environment and with the public</li> <li>Communicate effectively both orally and in writing</li> <li>Research and analyze financial data</li> <li>Willingness to work irregular hours as required.</li> </ul> <strong>Important Note:</strong>&nbsp;The above statements describe the principal and essential functions, but not all functions that may be inherent in the job.&nbsp; This job requires the ability to perform duties contained in the job description for this position, including, but not limited to, the above requirements.&nbsp; Reasonable accommodations will be made for otherwise qualified applicants, as needed, to enable them to fulfill these requirements.
