Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Employ knowledge of company and legal procedures as well as principles of insurance, banking or corporate law. Work independently while assisting attorneys in the legal process necessary for the conducting company business.</li> <li>Review, analyze and summarize issues involved incoming litigation or administrative actions.</li> <li>Determine need for file documentation, obtain proofs, and clarify facts and issues.</li> <li>Organize, assemble and interpret records and documents. Research legal issues, policies and/or procedures.</li> <li>Prepare one or more of the following: briefs, motions, pleadings, mediation and arbitration summaries, legal opinions, corporate documents, depositions, medical and file summaries, exhibits, correspondence, and memoranda.</li> <li>Review and recommend publications for acquisition within the Law Library.</li> <li>Maintain library budget. Act as a resource person to all level of company personnel regarding complex corporate legal matters and departmental procedures.</li> <li>Attend and participate in educational seminars with attorneys as required.</li> <li>Originate and maintain research index systems, brief banks, and inter-departmental statistics.</li> <li>Report developments in legislation and case law to legal staff.</li> <li>Support litigation matters and act as a general litigation assistant during court proceedings.</li> <li>Research medical facts when necessary.</li> <li>Prepare trial books, contracts, assemble evidence and perform various other tasks related to court proceedings. Prepare witnesses for appearance at trials.</li> <li>Assist in coordinating the defense of actions brought in small claims court.</li> <li>Participate in all phases of the settlement process including evaluations, recommendations, and negotiations.</li> <li>Originate and maintain expert witness files.</li> <li>Attend special legislative or judicial proceedings as required.</li> <li>Review and summarize complex court decisions and legislative and regulatory developments impacting legal and claim procedures.</li> <li>Assemble data and provide input for implementation of computerized research and litigation monitoring systems.</li> <li>Assist in preparation of a legal periodical for distribution to the Claims department.</li> </ul>
